While browsing the forum, I noticed some posts go back to July 2000 or whereabouts and I then began to wonder if this is how far the forum actually goes, had there been a previous incarnation and who are the oldest contributors and members. It is rather fascinating reading the different opinions and evolution on Naim gear and also on music tastes in the last 15 or so years. Times may have changed but people are still very much engaged on having a good discussion and the occasional rant.

I must have been a member of the earliest forum, certainly pre 1999, and remember JV posting. I also recall Vuk's postings, he could be very opinionated. I bought my first Naim black boxes (62/140) in the early 1980s and am very very old. I doubt my total post count will have reached 1000.

No fan of NASCAR, I think even I get the 3 is for Dale Earnhardt - right?
Howard, I bet I can guess your age but out of respect for my elders I'll refrain from doing so

Any one who needs to know knows my real name and even on some my post I will sign off with my actual fore name.
Howard.
I've always used my real name on here. It was really popular in 1995, when I was born.
Hook posted:That was a fun read! I wonder how many modern day boybander sheep would now like to admit to also being non-ferrous weenie boys? Too funny!
Sounds like an exact description of yours truly! There was certainly a lot more wit displayed in the old days - nowadays it seems very serious, and the exchanges can on occasion be quite nasty. The space between is, to me, the best space.
I remember the stand wars - perhaps we need a new war, but what would it be - Ethernet cables have been done....

I think he was a German.
He claimed he has been in the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment).
Adam warned me to leave his posts alone and save my life.......really he had the power to get me angry and i did offend him once: "...you expatrieted....".
Innit!
I was a member of the old forum, but almost never posted on there, just used to look for advice really. Says I've been a member of this one since 2002. Gawd...
I think I was on the forum in the late '90's, I bought my first Naim equipment (52 & 250) back in 1996 if I remember correctly, for the princely sum of £6K. Wish we could still buy new at those prices! I do remember Vuk, didn't he have a pair of DBLs?
Eventually I lost interest (of the forum, not music nor Naim) and slipped away quietly and didn't return until I think 2014.
Wonder how long I'll last this time? Am starting to feel my upgradeitis has been cured, there don't seem any more logical changes for me to make. Just as well the system sounds quite good.
Joe, you are a gentleman, not giving away a persons age. Worringly I'm about to reach the age of David Bowie and Alan Rickman.
Correct it was Earndardt's number the icon is a still of a moving avatar that morphed into the number 8 for Earndardt jnr.
I started posting in 2000 after getting my first Naim amplifiers 140/62 on eBay of course - it has been a great outlet for each huge moment of discovery about the gear - Naim loudspeakers, CDS2, 52/135s, 500 series etc. and then discovered new music and artists in the Music Room.
Now I have started a company in California primarily as a dealer in Naim gear I hope to be posting more although I have to be much more careful about what I write.

Sorry BigH, I couldn't resist! I thought maybe it was one of those badges you get with a birthday card.
It certainly was a long time ago. 2 wives ago in my case...
I too was on before 1997 and after. I remember going to a couple of Forum meet-ups in London around that time too.
steve
Brilliant, Steve.
I think we should bring those meetings back along with an annual award, perhaps the NANA - Naim National Awards. We need to sort out the categories and most importantly the host. There are a few characters here who would be more than suitable for the role.
Derek Wright posted:The thread to fear was the great homeopathy thread, it out bored the most vicious cables debate.
Gawd, I remember that thread, it went on for weeks and weekls and weeks. An extraordinary thing.
I think the term "allotropic" appeared in that thread more times than in all the medical journals ever published put together.
Dozey posted:I used to post as a guest back in 2000. Here is an old post from the Unofficial Naim Forum FAQs
What is the Naim Audio Forum?
Its an internet discussion group where people discuss Naim Audio.
[rest of post cut to save space]
That was written by Matthew Robinson (fellow lefty and WHU fan) IIRC.

He was awesome.
I think I joined in 1996 - the days of the threaded forum, Paul S, Julian V, and Doug all used to post. I have archives of the old forum (given to me by Martin Payne). The quality of the discussion on the technical side was just epic, and as I was newish to the world of Naim I learned a lot. I am still friends with folks from the threaded Naim forum (20 years ago!) e.g. Ken C was active in those days too. I think I remember Ken C posting a letter in the old 'Audiophile' magazine with a picture of him in 1992 or something.
Doesn't time fly when you're having fun. In my opinion it's all the same nowadays, record players have been replaced by streamers, and there is no Mana vs Quadraspire discussions/wars. You needed to have been there to have experienced those lol !!!
Good listening

When I see these kind of photos my spine starts aching. This is almost as bad as going to the dentist....
I feel like a newbie as I just joined at the beginning of 2012. I have the feeling that at the beginning I also got a lot of cal it technical knowledge, nowadays I am mainly interested in music choices of people, reviews of music and discussions of new products / comparison. I am still looking forward to a length comparison of the 500 DR and not....
