N272 Volume Control knob

Very please with my N272 (still less than 100 hours old).

While trying all the functions - I noticed that the volume control know was a stiffer to turn vs the home demo unit that my dealer lent me.

In fact I went into his dealership to make sure that what I recalled was in fact true - what I discovered is that the stiffness of the knobs seems to different by device - so his N272 had a very loose easy to turn volume knob - his N252? pre-amp's volume know was stiffer, and the balance control even stiffer - about the same as my N272...

The the stiffness get less with use? Or the control stiffness level I have now what I will have to expect from now on? I was surprised at the level of variation - but is this to do with the fact that NAIM are hand built?

The control stiffness is not a major issue - but it would have been a bit nicer to have the same 'free -flow' as my dealers demo unit...

My NAC N272 volume control knob is much stiffer than the knob on my SuperUniti and I was also surprised when I discovered that.  It's only a month, but the N272 hasn't got noticeably less stiff.  Mind you it doesn't get a lot of use because I tend to use the app.

One has to be careful to avoid double entendres on these 'knob' threads, so choosing my words carefully I will say that the knob action on my 272 is exactly the same as that on my previous SuperUniti. Both turn easily, and both are/were silky and smooth. If your knob is too stiff and you find using it uncomfortable, perhaps you should ask your dealer to send it back to Naim for a little lubrication or a replacement. On the other hand, if it's not that irritating, just live with it. The fate of your knob is in your hands.

Isn't that the switch at the back?

That then is what my teenage kids would call... an 'epic fail'! Dick Emery would indeed be proud!

Not with Naim, because you leave the power on all the time and just turn up the volume to "turn it on"!  (That's the best I can come up with, to what was a very fair challenge.)

And as Graeme implies, I also think we should all hold HH in awe for his wonderful input to this discussion yesterday. I hope the OP has found this all to be useful!
