Headphones... And UQ2
Posted by: mrCardoso on 20 January 2016
Hello to all the comunity. Recommend me a set of headphone That "works" on my recent purchase.. The UQ2.
by That im saying on pair with...
(I've heard That some kinds depends on specific amplification to sound best, and so on...)
I'm interested on the 300/500€ range. Looking for something that's a bit more serious than the usual iPhone intra aural phones.
opinions?! Thanks in advance...
Sennheiser hd650
Or slightly less money the HD 600 - the old King, and the old King liveth ...
Had the 650 for 7/8 years and cannot recommended them enough. Anything above will need separate amplification.
I love the AKG K701 when plugged in the UQ (original)
I've moved this to the Hifi Corner where you may get some more responses.
Thank you Sir.
err can't agree with Sennheiser HD600 or 650. The UQ2 really struggles to make 300Ohm cans sound convincing. I currently have HD600 with my UQ2 (because I had them from before when I had a different source and a Rega Ear) and it is not a match made in heaven.
And you cannot add an external headphone amp. You'll get better results from lower cost headphones of 150 Ohm range. HD600 and higher are a bit wasted on a UQ2.
By the way....
" If you want something cheap and easy, the dynamic driver is your only bet. If you have wads of cash to spend and are willing to give up any idea of your headphones being portable or even easy to move about the house, consider an electrostatic pair... ..in the middle sits the planar magnetic headphone, which is a step-up design that doesn’t mean you have to be willing to sacrifice anything just for the sake of your headphones. interesting info...
Mr Zen, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Think its An relevante data. I will take That in consideration.
The HD 600/650 are great headphones. They will work on your UQ2 but the sound will be thin and unengaging. There is simply not enough juice to meet their demands ![]()
HD600/650 & AKG K701 need separate amp so forget these
The Beyer dynamic DT250 /80 closed or AKG K240 studio open style
both neutral and superb value for money, get that better cable for the studio's
then there's the Sony 7506, not enough personal experience but these are very interesting too
AKG K240/K701 have the same sensitivity and similar electrical impedance (From AKG specs):
AKG K240 Studio : sensitivity 104 db SPL/V
AKG K701 : sensitivity 105 db SPL/V
AKG K240 Studio : rated impedance - 55 ohms, max input power 200mW
AKG K701 : rated impedance - 65 ohms, max input power 200mW
It seems That planar solution is more sensitive/ easy to drive. Could a Oppo pm3 or Audeze El-8 be a solution (even if i have to streetch the budget)?!
thoughts? Thanks.
Dear brilliant, im curious about de k701,s. Think schedule An audition: Must stick to the the initial plan of budget.
Hi. I have UQ2 and use Oppo PM3. I use the headphones more with my Astell & Kern but they seem OK with the UQ. I really like the PM3. I have had Grado 325 and Sennheiser momentum but the I prefer the OPPO.
@mrCardoso
Absolutely audition if you can - UQ2 is easy to tote around and personal taste/music always is the measure. I use cans for movies at night - music listening is always through speakers. Please do not expect to get all the performance of the K701 using the UQ. I have the DAC V1 and Cayin HA-1A and and even these probably are not as transparent as the K701. The UQ/K701 however is much more pleasant than a pair of the old Sony MDR-V6 I had been using with it till one channel quit on me (not to mention the totally shredded pad covering).

If you audition - make sure the set is well 'broken in' - I think about 200 hours playtime before they shine!
" I have had Grado 325 and Sennheiser momentum but the I prefer the OPPO." Nice ones, simonCarr
Yeah, the Sennheiser Momentums were a consistent dull and closed-in listen for me, tried through various sources.
