Anyone heard Gallo Ref 3 speakers with Naim?

I may be able to get a used pair of these, but home demo will not be possible. Does anyone have any experience with these on the end of Naim systems?

Me! Me! Me! Me! Me! Me!

I've been using Ref3.1's for the last five years or so and absolutely love them. They sound fabulous and take every upgrade that I've made to the electronics in their stride. They just get better and better. I've never felt the need to change them.

My previous speakers were a pair of Kef Concerto 2, so there was a massive leap going to the Gallo's. I suppose some would say that I should compare with other makes and models, as I'm sure there are better speakers out there. But, do you know what? I don't care, these do it for me.

Having said all that, there's no love for them on this forum. Naim users have shunned them in general. From previous conversations they're seen as a bit too avant garde and naimees are a conservative lot. Just look at the amount of Farrow & Ball and oak beams in the pictures thread

My only advice would be to make sure the electronics are up to the job to get the best performance and really make them sing.

Good luck!

Nothing wrong with Farrow & Ball! To prove I'm a hip and happening kind of dude, I have always liked the look of your speakers - they make a refreshing change from boring wooden boxes.

If I had not bought Ovator 400s, I would have bought Gallo Ref 3.1's. They sounded great to my ears during a home demo, and they scored very high in VFM.

The best I've heard them sound was at a show when they paired with a digital preamp from DEQX. It was the most convincing argument for room-based DSP I've ever heard.

I see from your profile that you've moved on from the Teddy stuff to a 272/300: very nice! Next you'll be getting Naim speakers!

I wasn't very happy with the TP DAC after a while. It was just too digital for my ears.

I sold it on and just used the Qute in to the MB100's which was ok, but then the 272 was launched. After some initial scepticism I borrowed a demo unit for a week and was easily convinced. It soon replaced the Qute and worked very well with the monoblocs. In case you're interested, they are excellent, and I was happy to settle with that combination. Until...

I spotted a wanted ad on PFM, someone looking for a pair MB100's. This was at a time when NAP300's were in plentiful supply due to the DR trade-ins. Not to miss the opportunity I sold the amps together with a pair of PowerLines, which put the upgrade to the NAP300 within reach.

It sounds staggeringly good.

So that's where I am today. All I need now is a power supply for the 272 and a full loom. Sigh...

Apologies to the OP for hijacking the post.

I'm slumming it with the 250 DR, but I do have the power supply and the full loom. As you say, staggeringly good.

These speakers don't need rear wall reinforcement and are always seen placed in free space.

Trust me, it works
