New speakers cables
Posted by: Anto68 on 22 January 2016
Hi all,
I am using a normal speakers cable Monster S16 standard 1 FT and I would like to upgrade it. I want to buy the Nordost White Lightning (here in Italy cost 350 euro). There is someone who know or use these cables?
You think I would get more transparency and better sound quality? Or only an extremely sensitive ear can hear the difference?
I also look forward any suggestions about other cables brands. My music system consists Unitilite, Elac BS 263 loudspeaker, Rel Sub.
Hi Aussiesteve - Audio Reference in Auckland, or alternatively direct from the UK may be possible.
I'm another TQ black user. I've heard Ultra black in my system and the improvements in soundstage, detail and instrument placement are a big improvement. It's on the wish list!
Hi Finkfan, what you will find with the tq ultra blacks is everything is elevated to another level, even the shaven bare skinned mice sit up and applaud.....
Does it make the bed of hair stand on end?
Hungryhalibut posted:The A5 is a perfect match for the Unitilite, which I suspect the Nordost will not be. Buying on price is a sure fire way to get it wrong. For an alternative to A5 that definitely works with Naim amps and isn't silly money, I'd suggest looking at Tellurium Q Black.
+1 on TQ Black -
on my 82/2xHicap/180 with PMC 2023's it is great. A significant improvement on previous Chord Rumour (v1).

If not for this amazing comunity I never dared to buy a product from me unknown but I trust in you too much.
Thank you for sharing my magical journey with Naim.
Cheers from Milan
I think you will be happy - I was!

Yep. Great cables Kevo
I am tempted to give TQ black ago but once tried their blue and that put me off as they sounded flat to me and took the enjoyment out of my system. Is it right that the black are a bit lean sounding in terms of bass ??
Richy. Demo the black. It's very good. Not at all like the blue. The blue is more for bright sounding systems or home cinema. Takes the edge off. I find the bass excellent on the black in my system.
Therr are plenty off dealers around who will loan you a set to listen to in your system
Any comparisons of the Black with Naim's SL?
Not heard the SLs. But at around Ultra black price they would be good to compare. I love the Ultra black sound
I'm a huge tellurium q fan and can vouch for the improvemts you get as you make your way up the TQ ladder. Black is very good but ultra black is noticible better, ultra silver offers even more detail.
price always is a factor but deals are out there if you check the usual places.
My local naim dealer, has gone over to tellurium from naim speaker cables, he personally knows the clever gentleman who invented the tellurium cables, and has come to the conclusion after over 30 years in the business, that he has heard nothing that compares with tellurium pound for pound ...I would be the first to doubt such a bold claim, if I had not had opportunity to hear for myself on demo..

Which cable are you using Knipester? I'm using 3.5m of black but with rearranging soon I'm sure I could get away with slightly shorter lengths, which would make an upgrade more affordable. Would love to compare Ultra black, Ultra silver and maybe Black diamond diamonds
I currently use TQ black diamond 3m speaker cables to great effect but I have used TQ black, TQ ultra black & chord signature.
I'd check 'bay' for TQ deals especially if the country your in doesn't retail TQ
Are you using Black diamond interconnects too? I've recently got a BD din and it sounds fantastic
Yes I have black diamond speaker cable & interconnects and I'm really pleased with the outcome.
Yes finkfan, I've had opportunity to hear the black Diamond interconnects, seriously one hell of a cable, worth every penny...would suggest remortgage the house and buy some black Diamond speaker cables!!!
And how do they compare to Naim's SL as I am having doubts on the SL range?
Guess the only answer is that i will have to try some!
Richard
Yes Wenger. I think it's the last interconnect I'll need to buy!
As for the speaker cables.....if only you could buy it by the centimeter!
Hi Richard, I've personally not heard the tellurium black Diamond speaker cable...but I have got the ultra blacks, my dealer put me on to tellurium, and he's just moved over from naim cables to tellurium himself, he suggested the black Diamonds were untouchable, and he's been in the business over 30 years...I'm sure he's probably right...
Yes, finkfan, if only.....will have to email santa again...
This afternoon I replaced NACA5 with TQB; after three tracks a clear improvement in detail/separation/instrument tone. I await TQB links later this week with interest. Whether in the long term it's all more musical and engaging we'll see; right now I'm a believer.

I'm just listening to my TQB now. Even after several months in my system they still bring a smile to my face

CharlieP, you've not heard of Audiophile Air (TM)? It allows for superior transition of the signal through your room. It's a fantastic addition and with the Mk2 version you only have to replace it every 30 minutes compared to 10 for the Mk1s.
