Adding functionality to QNAPs embedded TwonkyServer - Standalone Twonkymanager?

Posted by: Bosh on 03 June 2011

Using a QNAP TS210 with 2 x Samsung 1Tb HDs with the embedded V6.0 TwonkyServer and streaming FLACS ripped on EAC and tagged via MP3tag to a QUTE

I like the idea of the extra functionality Twonkymanager offers. Question is where would Twonkymanager sit? NAS or PC and if the latter would the Twonkyserver within Twonkymanager conflict with the NAS version or would I then need the PC on 24/7 to stream to the Qute?

Twonky on your qnap is a server. That stays there running.

Twonky media manager without having looked is probably control point software and would be on the PC.

The uniti is a renderer.

For upnp music to work you only need the server and renderer. The control point is most often at the renderer point, so in the case of the uniti the front display.

Contol point software can be a right pain in the arse and in the case of twonky media would need the pc running which might make it a bit pointless with the nas thing going on.

Plenty of control points are available for tablets, iphones and androids.

Sorry if media manager is not a control point, I have not looked into it.

Thanks Gary

I just would have liked the playlist and queuing functions that seem to come with the media manager but not Naim's App

I had tried Media Monkey prior to Twonky but as you say its a right PIA, so I'll have a look at some other control points apps
