Harry Nilsson

It's 3 am, just finished watching a documentary about Harry. What a story. I never really understood his popularity until this film came along. Some really interesting commentary, with people like Ray Cooper, and Randy Newman, among others. Quite a fascinating story about one very unique musician. He has a very fine voice, and I guess he's kind of a musician's favorite musician.

Fascinating ... I don't know the Nilsson story, but I have most of Harry's albums and still enjoy them. John Lennon called him the Beatles’ favourite band.

I remember in college one guy had a Nilsson sings Newman. He sang Newman's songs while Randy spoke them. I thought it was wonderful, I"ve never heard anyone do that again. I was quite entertained by The Point at that time also.

I dig Nilsson, too, but why isn't this topic in Music?

But Fred, I wanted to talk about the man himself, not really about his music.

For UK viewers - Tuesday 19th BBC1
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b012s1zd
"Alan Yentob introduces John Scheinfeld's documentary Harry Nilsson - The Missing Beatle, a film that tells the story of the riotous life and music of Harry Nilsson."
One worth recording, I think.

There is something to be said about driving 'round Cleveland or Detroit, nary any Rust Belt town in the U.S., with "Jump Into The Fire" cranking through the car radio. It's a track for the cool kids who could never be cool.

I too think 'Jump in to the fire' is extraordinary. used to jump around the room to it in my early teens, don't think any of my other friends had heard of him.
