polo?!

through work i have managed to get some VIP tickets to see the polo at windsor this weekend...
so the question i pose to you guys;
can someone run down some rules for me so i don't look like a complete numpty!
i understand there are ponies and i believe what i'll be watching is 22goal. so hit ball between fences 22 times before other team?
Lucky you. The Guards Polo Club at Windsor is one of the finest places to play or watch polo and you will have a great afternoon (weather permitting). I believe the 22 goals you refer to is the combined handicap of the players and a combined handicap of 22 is very high (in fact its as good as it gets) so you should be in for a treat but without knowing more about the event I can't say for sure.
I was going to write you a detailed reply but you won't do better than checking out wikepdia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polo this will answer your questions quicker and more ably.
thank you sniper, that was a good read. quite a nice simple sport by the sounds of things!
ill post back after the event. I'm quite looking forward to it!
Hi Stuart,
Polo really is the sport of kings. Take a good camera if you can (with a telephoto lens and tripod). I would love to hear your report. I used to go to Cowdray park in Sussex to watch the polo on a regular basis and Windsor less often. I've even played a couple of times but I'm left handed and polo has to be played right handed - its the rules due to safety concerns. I had dreams of running away to Argentina and working on a polo ranch until I found out about the right hand thing. Great shame. I have checked out the Guard's Polo Club website and if you are going to see the The Harcourt Developments Queen's Cup (17-22 Goal) you are in for a real treat - the players are professionals and you get to see the best looking babes and the Queen will probably be watching. I hope you dont spend too much time in the corporate hospitality tents as the sight and sound of 8 horses thundering past and turning on a sixpense and then thundering back again is really something. What a treat!
i will have a camera, but it will be limited to shoddy iphone4. mainly because i want to enjoy the event and not spend time wandering about the exposure times ect. and also because i don't own one
i do believe it is the harcourt day as that is where i recognise the names from, they are spread across a few teams tho. thought they were on the same team! should be an interesting day!
Ensure that you go out at half time and stamp in the divots. Also the bar gets very busy so order a couple of rounds at a time.
