nDAC Automation

Wow.  I just discovered I can control my nDAC input from my Naim Narcom remote (for my 282, in Preamp mode, using buttons 7, 8, 9, 0).

I have owned my DAC for 3 1/2 years, and have known that I could use the remote in this way by connecting a cable between the control sockets of the 282 and the DAC.  But this presumably compromised the audio, and I just never got around to trying it.  But the other evening the music suddenly stopped, and I had accidentally pushed the "7" button on the remote.  Inspection revealed the nDAC had switched from input 4 (which I was using) to input 1, which had nothing connected.

Upon re-reading the nDAC manual, I realize my above described behavior is just what the manual says it should be (Duh!).  But I let myself be confused by the discussion of "Control Link Cable" in Section 3.1, and by lack of any mention of an infrared sensor.  Apparently one needs the Control Link Cable only to tell the preamp to select the DAC input channel based upon DAC input selection.

So, even though I do not frequently change the DAC input, I find it is pretty cool to use the remote.

I wonder what other cool stuff I have overlooked?  I am sharing this for others who may not know it, and to give a good laugh to those who do.

Not much more to the nDAC operation - you've just discovered it all

Conclusion from reading today's post : reading a manual from time to time does occasionally reveal useful features

How to shutdown the button lights (display) is another hidden feature. While the Narcom is in preamp mode, push and maintain the disp key in for a fraction of a second longer after the Preamp lights have gone off and the nDAC's lights will go as well.

Cool.  Thanks, Chag.

Yes you can also turn off or on up sampling to either 48 to 350 or revert to non over sampling by placing a finger over the logo at 5 second intervals

Tobyjug, how did you ever learn that one?  Is there a software manual out there which I have not seen?  I am hoping you are pulling our leg, because if not we are going to have a long thread debating the merits of different sample rates!
