NAS

I have been trying to install without success a Netgear NAS with WD hard drives.to back up a UnitiServe. The first one was found to be faulty when I returned it to the suppliers, the second one did not connect via one of the slots as determined by Netgear themselves during an extensive telephone support session. Has anyone else had a problem with this product?

Which product? Model number? It's important to make sure the NAS supports the size (capacity) of drives being installed. I've discovered that not all NASes support all drive capacities. This is probably not your problem, just an observation.

Thanks. The drives were checked by Netgear and found to be compatible.

Netgear has a good reputation so I think you have been unlucky. I use their unmanaged switches as a matter of choice, but I haven't tried their NAS (I use Synology).
Once you have got a NAS that works, if you can't configure it to back up your US then you should talk to Phil at Naim support because he will be able to help you.

Thanks. Phil it was who recommended Netgear. I am persisting with the product, having asked the suppliers install the hard disks themselves and test it, only sending it to me when they could guarantee that it was working.

Sounds like a plan!
But what I meant was that Phil can help you configure your Nethear NAS if you want, for example by remoting into your PC and making the necessary settings in the US and the NAS.

That's right. But in doing so Phil recommended using Netgear equipment. I reckon I've just been unlucky. I look forward to receiving replacements that work.

Phil configured my friends unitiserve with a synology 213j nas. He somehow logged into my friends system and sorted it perfectly. What a great service! Of course you will need a working nas first

Thanks. I've used Phil before when I had a minor problem with the UnitiServe. He's great.

Yes he did this to for me with my Synology NAS. I am sure the Netgear NAS will be fine once the OP gets one that works, but configuring a Unitiserve can be a bit of a trial, which is where Phil can easily help.
