Good info.,  thanks.  I was aware something like this was festering but had no details.

Oh dear, that would be really bad news. As long as RP continues to pay its way to the artists it plays I would hope that some kind of agreement can be reached to resolve the situation.

I would really miss RP if it was not able to continue, it is my favourite station by far.

Yes but its not just RP,  what about the thousands of other small internet stations,  same boat as far as I can tell.

Posted on: 25 January 2016 by ChrisH

Yes of course Mike, I was being purely selfish in my comment as RP is the only small Internet station I listen to, but its definitely not a good thing for all of the stations.

No probs Chris,  we're all feeling selfish over this.  I listen a lot to RP, Martini in the Morning, & few more even smaller local US stations from around the Minneapolis area.   I've dug into it a bit over the last hour & Skype'd a buddy in US & he is digging.
I said it had been festering in my first post,  well it seems its been going on for many years,  I found exchanges dated 2007 & with links further back.
This more or less sums it up as of where its at today  .............  http://rainnews.com/crb-small-...hope-and-strategies/
Its not the end,  maybe this is the first round ...........  something to watch

I think what's missing is this:  The days of consumers buying music sight unseen are over.  I don't enter a day planning on buying a CD.  But if I hear something good on RP, or see something mentioned here and check it out on Spotify, I buy the CD off Amazon

If you represent musicians and think the best thing is to squeeze every last cent out of independent operators, you are shooting yourself in the foot

Wow, great article, I listen to RP almost daily, I've spread the word.  I was at a 4th of July party and 2 couples were talking about the lousy LA stations, I mentioned RP, one of them went in and put it on.  That party really took off with a nice vibe, I got kudos but  kudos goes to Bob and his wife.  The flow and variety is incredible. I do pay them monthly thru my credit card. It's worth it.

F-bomb...just f-bomb...

It would be sad to loose RP, it's a brilliant station offering a great music without commercials at high bit rates. It's easy to donate a small amount periodically via paypal to help it survive so why not set up a payment schedule now?

RP - Long may you run!

David Byrne quotes:

"I don't listen to the radio very much, but that could be because I don't have a car."

"Music was an experience, intimately married to your life. You could pay to hear music, but after you did, it was over, gone - a memory."

"I never listen to the radio unless I rent a car."

I do not listen to RP as much as I used to but do hope they're not relying on DB for salvation.

Since yesterday RP seems to be offline? The playlist on their website as well es my uniti state the David Bowie with Life on Mars? is played. But the stream is all quiet.

Is this a technical problem only? (I hope so!) Or have they turned the service off because of the new financial problems?

Its OK now,  Mark Knopfler singing about a bird called Beryl

Posted on: 22 February 2016 by Goon525

That's the late novelist, Beryl Bainbridge. Having made this rather Sultansy song the lead single from 'Tracker' last year he then failed to play it live on tour. Curious.

Curious  ............. not for me,  I just don't listen to that track & reach for the iPad to skip it every time.

On a related note, Jazz24 is working on a deal to be sold so that they can continue operating like now. If this don't come true, this station may go.

Maybe MK agrees with you! I don't.
