What speaker cables do you use?
Posted by: wenger2015 on 25 January 2016
I started with the very basic chord rumor, that was a number of years ago, I didn't appreciate the significance of a real quality cable until quite recently, I am now a true convert of high quality speaker cables and interconnects.
I have since discovered the sublime tellurium ultra black speaker cables, which are exceptional, I know of course with another large sum of cash greater improvement can be made...so my question is what speaker cable do you use and why?
Tellurium q black diamond... They are breathtakingly good.
thats not to say that ultra blacks are not fabulous cables but the black diamonds just offer more of everything.
Moving from Chord Sarum to High Fidelity CT1 Enhanced
Cryo'd NACA5 from AVOptions.
10m of NACA5. I started with that when I had a NAP150 10 years ago or more. Perhaps someday I will try others, but the cost is a deterrent (10m length), as well as the need for me to route them through the crawlspace under the living room floor.
Atlas Hyper 2.0 between a 250.2 and PMC Twenty.23s
Atlas Equator 2.0 between a UQ2 and QAcoustics 2010is
both are 5m runs.
Chord Odyssey which has been with me since my pre Naim days.

Just a bit shorter, I've got 27-foot runs of NACA5 routed through my crawl space as well. The length certainly makes alternatives a cost deterrent, though I can demo lengths of about 15 feet directly in my room. Bought my NACA5 at a now bargain $10/foot four years ago, what's happened to the price? It's $25/foot!
Charlie - should you ever choose an alternative you simply need to find a (relatively) younger and able-bodied enthusiast to take up the crawl space duties. A quality, hand-pressed cup of joe and afternoon of listening could provide a suitable incentive

The way of the world. When I was in the trade and A5 was relatively new, it would go for GBP 5/metre.
On the other hand it beats inflation. Price of most consumer commodity goods in the UK has doubled since then but Naim has more than quadrupled. Though not fair to comare luxury Naim to commodity supermarket goods.
Started with Chord Odyssey and then moved to TQ Black last year.
We use Naim's rather super Super Lumina.
I moved from Cord Odyssey to TQ Black late last year, best vfm move I've made in hifi
4 * 10m of NACA5. Done the maths and have no immediate plans to change.

I'm using TQ black now after using Van Damme for a while. The TQ is so much better at everything. I too was sceptical about cables. Completely converted now!
Back sometime in the eighties I had a pair of Warfdale Dentons and used grey coloured bell wire! I read about QED 49 strand and What Hi-Fi commenting on the thickness of the copper being important. Picking up on this point I had so much of bell wire behind the speakers I was able to double it up. I couldn't believe how much more bass I'd got for a simple modification. The new level of bass would have been muddy ill defined etc but I got more 'boom'. I can't remember what amp I was using back then. I'm sure at some point I bought QED 79 strand then somthing else and so on as I took every review at its word and decided cable 'upgrades' were a cheap way of improving things. To be honest I don't think there's was that much difference probably because the source and the amp, let alone the speakers were pretty basic.
I now have Super Lumina. The last speaker cable I'll ever buy. It's stunning what it's allowed those black boxes to do.
The three bed semi with carport cost £16000 back in the early 80s. I've probably spent about half that over the years on cable if I include my current set up of SL and powerlines. If someone had told me back then... I'd have never believed it.
Remember it's the cable that holds everything together.
M
Hi M, quite a journey, I've heard a lot of good things about the SL cables, I'm a true convert now to the importance of high end cables, I assume the money spent on the SL's was well worth it? Like yourself I would never believe the money I'm spending at the moment....but you only live once....
Decided to spend some of my nominal kitchen Muso QB budget on TQB instead; what a great call
naca 5 good enough for me.
You don't know what you're missing!
I started with NACA5 and ran it for 5 years, thoroughly enjoying it. The Tellurium Q Black maintains the NACA5's best qualities and adds extras that improve the whole thing. Between my source, amp and speakers in my room etc. Mr Halibut finds TQB does not like Naim speakers so much.
TQB is certainly very popular - and more than I thought. It was certainly a lot better than A5 on my previous PMC speakers, but a little less good on the SL2s. It's cost a lot to get the best of both.
^ Honestly Don, you come here with your two bob opinions, whatever has happened to your writing? Where is the style, the rhetorical flourishes, in short, the zest?
Best, Chris
Naca5
have done much comparison to super lumina. And though people will hate me for saying this, although sl is vastly better than naca in almost every area and by a considerable margin, sl just doesn't have the musical drive of naca5. Sorry but has to be said.
