What speaker cables do you use?

Posted by: wenger2015 on 25 January 2016

I started with the very basic chord rumor, that was a number of years ago, I didn't appreciate the significance of a real quality cable until quite recently, I am now a true convert of high quality speaker cables and interconnects.

I have since discovered the sublime tellurium ultra black speaker cables, which are exceptional, I know of course with another large sum of cash greater improvement can be made...so my question is what speaker cable do you use and why?

I don't think you need flame proof clothing, more a need for a bullet proof vest....lol

Jon

Glad someone has said it because that is what I am hearing from other sources and has been on my mind since my home loan which was impressive but...

No regrets here - the SL is better in every way that's important to me, and with the Din to XLR the impact is just staggering. As with any of these things, there is always something of a backlash.

Before anyone asks this was with full statement system and magico. And black amps Inc 300dr with other speakers Inc Naim speakers in several locations.

Not tried on my six pack 135 dibbles. But that's a whole different kettle of fish in terms of wiring cost for sl of course.

Upgraded from NACA5 to 7m runs of Super Lumina - and super it is too! Now nicely burned in the improvement is not subtle.

3m of NACA5

NAC-A5 all the way 2 x 6m stupidly stiff great cable.

I assume we are comparing Super Lumina to Nac a5..... For 3.5 mtr lengths it's got to be about £1500 difference....am I missing something!!

I have Audience  conductor SE  they made a dramatic improvement to my Harbeth SHL5.

I'm sure my dealer who has set it up has more connectors back there along with the Audience aR6-TS conditioner which handles everything except my Naim components.

When he tuned my Palmer TT, multi minute adjustments that deepened the sound or floated and brightened, then back to fuller sound.  I was so confused. Then he would assess my system, fiddle with speaker placement up and down on the couch 24 times, made me nervous. My TV and art back of my couch was draped with my green sheets to absorb sound.  He'd take one box and sell it and come back with something else over 6 months.  All in all I'd just write him a check instead of get some money back. However, it sounds glorious, Billie Holiday right in my room.

Naca5

have done much comparison to super lumina. And though people will hate me for saying this, although sl is vastly better than naca in almost every area and by a considerable margin, sl just doesn't have the musical drive of naca5. Sorry but has to be said.

(Puts on flame proof clothing)

Grrrr..... I will hold the firing squad

For some reason SL is available in 3 meter length. Probably something to do with capacitance of the cable.

That's what I have. Other than the acrid grey smoke and the odd spark, everything is fine.

That might be the firing squad, reloading the gun powder....

Or slightly higher inductance?

Or perhaps to abuse the quote 'C'mon baby light my fire....'

My physics here is a bit fuzzy, but...

Capacitance depends on the lenght of a cable (amont other things).

Inductance is really down to what it is made of, its gague and how much of a magnetic field it generates. I'm not too sure if length is a factor...

Maybe if you're using the nac a5, it's try and light my fire....if you're using the super Lumina..then I'm on fire....lol

Ahhhh lumina....I get it now

I think conductor spacing is a factor too Adam

Previously had Chord Epic Twin but switched to TQ Black. Decided to give it a whirl after the monster TQ Black thread on this forum. I was not disappointed... they're fantastic cables.

Over the years I've had a variety of speaker cables e.g. Mission, Fuwakowa culminating in Kimber Monocle X (like a black python coiled on the carpet). Then I got Naim amps and the Kimber had to go.  Tellurium "green' got the nod and I was very happy with this until....well, until Super Lumina arrived.   A demo at home sold me on SL on the first song played. A stunning uplift in performance. Despite the price - I needed 2 x 5m - there was no way I could go back and have since completed the full loom.

2 x 9m runs of 25 year old NAC A5. No interest in investigating alternatives, at least not in the foreseeable.

Sort of.... progress can only be achieved if we continue to test.... Evolution does not come from standing still, being content with what we have.
