What speaker cables do you use?
Posted by: wenger2015 on 25 January 2016
I started with the very basic chord rumor, that was a number of years ago, I didn't appreciate the significance of a real quality cable until quite recently, I am now a true convert of high quality speaker cables and interconnects.
I have since discovered the sublime tellurium ultra black speaker cables, which are exceptional, I know of course with another large sum of cash greater improvement can be made...so my question is what speaker cable do you use and why?
Finkfan posted:Are they together as a cable or 2 separate wires?
Together as a cable, fig-8 style. I know that means capacitance may be significant, but the amp manufacturer (Bryston) seems to think it is of no consequence.
Innocent Bystander posted:Mine are two twin lengths of copper wire. 6mm2 for minimum resistance, and multistrand for flexibility and in case there is any skin effect of significance. OFC not because I believs there's a difference, but because it was available at reasonable cost, and both channels the same at 12m because one has to be.
The question is, do they work ...I'm sure the answer is going to be a big yes..
Yeah rather that way round than separated too far. The inductance would be huge!
I do like a beefy cable

Well, i'e never compared with anything else - never had the inclination as the sound is great, and i'd rather spend money on electronics or speakers (and have done so).
SuperLumina, the best I have ever used. But probably only worth the investment on the 250DR upwards.

I was wondering what the minimum system requirement would be to try SL.
I have 3.5m NACA5 with my Uniti 2 but I would like to try Ansuz X cables. May try them at some point this year

I heard Super Lumina for the first time at the Bristol show, I'm not sure if it was the room acoustics but the cable was a little on the harsh side for me,especially when the full loom was fitted, plenty of detail though, would like to hear them again in a different acoustic environment.
TQ Black (7m) on non-Naim amp (SimAudio Moon 700i), was a big setup from NACA5 on the same amp.

Hi,
no, I have always used NAC A5 and standard ICs, but then I saw mention of Vertere's existence here, in a series of pics portraying the introduction of the Statement amps at a show: someone commented that the speaker cables in the pic were, or looked, from Vertere.
I was interested, so looked for it on the internet. It appeared that the company was founded by the former founder of Roksan. Later, there was – to my eyes, at least, but this was somehow encouraged by other clues – some evidence that Vertere has to do with SuperLumina cables, so I decided to trust my instinct and take the plunge.
I have all Vertere cabling now, safe powers cords: IC, SNAICs and speaker cables. My IC and SNAICs are from the entry level range, but the speaker cable is mid-range level.
Max
I have the super lumina cables. I heard them in a Naim factory visit before they have been on the market. And it was clear for me within a minute that I had to make the upgrade from my NACA5 cables before.

I think your right to trust your instincts, after all comments on forum, it's what you like that really counts, glad it's working for you so well, appreciate your comments.

The fact your decision was instantaneous, says a lot, I've only heard the cables once and acoustically the room wasn't great, I'm looking forward to hearing them again sometime soon.

I'm a big fan of TQ cables, I've just recently upgraded to the ultra blacks, I think the TQ cable range is exceptional. Agreed it is a big step up.
I have also resorted to full Nordost set up but have NAIM source only, not amplification, which may -or may not- be relevant... I find their lower level products rather "thin" sounding and the upper ones unreachable cost-wise but the Norse series level sound very right (to those ears).

Hi, the cost of the Super Lumina for example is very high, especially if you include interconnect, from the reviews I've read the Nordost cables are highly praised
Just purchased a pair of BIS Audio Vivats in 2.5 meter lengths and like them very much. Open, organic sounding and detailed. A nice match for my 272/XPS/200 and Kudos Super 10s. Was using Siltech Explorer 90L beforehand and although a very good cable, the BIS Audio are more upfront and more detailed.
I use nordost heimdall 2 BUT I just got TQ black to check how it goes. It's because of the hype TQ gets here and also because I had it some time before. Anyway it sounds promising, really musical. I hear some slight loss of details but its ca. 9xcheaper
and if I sell nordost I will use € to found my xps!

Hi, not heard of BIS Audio Vivats , they obviously work very well, are they a really expensive cable?

I used to have the TQ black, extremely good cable, I've since purchased the TQ ultra blacks which is again extremely good, plus over time they just keep improving more and more..
2x4,9m NACA5

They are made in Canada, more specifically in Montreal, Quebec. From what I have read online, they are popular with Naim users in Quebec and lesser known outside of the province. Retail is about $1350 CDN for a pair of 2.5 meter lengths.

As I mentioned I've not come across this particular make of cable. That's one thing I like about the forum, your attention is drawn to other possibilities rather then the usual brand name companies.

The Nac a5 is certainly a very good cable. I think it was naims only speaker cable for many many years.
Another vote for TQ Black way better than NAC A5 on my system, I did home demo the Naim SL which was very good BUT not enough for me to go for them yet, mabe in the future....never say never but the 300DR comes next for me.
