Speaker Grilles

Posted by: Gavin L on 30 January 2016

I thought I would share a picture of my new grilles for the DBLs.  The original had started to crumble pretty badly and also suffered from the occasional finger hole from the children when they were younger .

The foam is different from the original, much courser, but overall a very neat job.

Here is the view from my listening position.  Nice view, but I probably spend more time looking directly at the system!

Blimey, that's a system with "cojones".

Hi Gavin, were the grilles purchased from a certain American company?

Yes, it was a lead by someone on the forum (thanks Mark).  A US company (remember to factor in Import VAT when considering the price).  I am very pleased with them.  The foam is a little different to the original, but they are exactly the original design and do bring things back to near original condition.

Thank you for the compliment (and others above).

They were bought second hand a few years back.  For sound quality - a bargain - although it did demand an upgrade in most everything else.  Not very popular with the rest of the household though!

The Dibbles look great , I expect they sound as good as they look.

A lovely wonky active set you have there Gavin. What's the gramophone? No mention of it in your profile.

It looks a bit like a Linn Axis, though I've not seen one for many years.

Yeah; I thought the same Nigel.

It is a Linn Axis, with the Basik Plus arm and an Audio Technica ATF1 mc.  I always fancied the LP12, but don't really use it enough to justify a change.

Good guess, also I meant ATF5.

I believe the US manufacturer can custom make a broad range of designs, so possibly worth checking out.  (Search foam speaker grilles)

Not particularly cheap, but for me, they were worth it.
