Cable revalation

Posted by: Gavin L on 30 January 2016

So it was quite late last night when I decided to remove/replace all of my cables.  The impact was amazing, the system was sounding good, very tight and controlled, but lacking some detail that it had revealed in the past.  OK, so it was late, and I was keen to hear this morning in case the improvement was imagined - but no!  Very detail and lively (active) presentation.

The only thing is, I have no idea which cables provided the most benefit.  I am thinking signal cables, but that is just a guess.  In the process, I made sure none of the signal cables were locked (they weren't) and also tried to ensure they were not "hard in".  I am not sure this is exactly the best approach, but it seemed to work.

I would be interested to hear others experience in this regard.

Never hurts to pull 'em out and shove 'em back every few months. Twice a year here. If you don't hear a difference it's hardly cost you anything and in most cases you probably will hear one. Dust, oxidation, physical reseating, physical forces, exact point(s) of contact, magnetic fields, EMR.... ? Who knows?  But it usually works and that's the important part.

I don't lock DIN rings and push DINs and speaker plug fully in, them pull then out a mm or so. My thumbnail can come in handy for this.
