Terry Wogan

Only 77. He was an institution.

His Eurovision commentaries were classics.
Very sad - a huge personality that goes right back to my childhood.
RIP Terry. His humour kept me laughing on my morning commute, a fantastic broadcaster and fundraiser.
He seems to have been part of weave of childhood memories for ever ...
It makes one realise that one is no longer youthful when such great characters start leaving the stage.

77 years is no age these days. A very sad loss indeed. I never met him but he seemed a genuinely good man.
RIP
Genuinely very sorry to hear about this earlier.
I had been wondering, after he's missed so much of his Sunday show, but last I heard he was recovering from a back operation
His show did make my long term God awful commute bearable and the music selected and played by he and his producers seemed a big part of Radio 2 moving from 'twee' to grown up I think (though I did think Mark and Lard should have got the Breakfast gig...)
Apparently as gentle, kind and witty in real life as on the radio. But he was a bit of an iron fist in a velvet glove in that he was so beautifully cutting and sarcastic but delivered with such grace and charisma that no one took offence but made him a wonderful entertainer. A true gentleman.
I remember listening to him on Radio 2 as a kid and always left for school (and later for work) with a smile on my face.
I loved his absolute piss take of The Eurovision Song Contest when he was the compere, but done with such a soft touch. I only ever watched The ESC to listen to Terry's wonderful banta which of course Graham Norton has so deliciously taken over. Terry was the first and still the best though.
RIP Terry, you will be missed.
A sad farewell from a long-time TOG ...
