Unitiqute 2 vs Sbt

Posted by: robert- on 31 January 2016

Would this be a side step or upgrade.

My amp is the nait5i which is connected to the Logitech sbt with dynaudio speakers.

Would selling the above and changing to the uq2 be a sound move?

Cheers

Robert - I am not familiar with the Logitech sbt.  Whether its a sound move depends on what you are trying to achieve.  The UQ2 is a one box Streaming and integrated Pre/Power amp. It has upgrade routes with a Power Amp and DAC.

My advice would be to get yourself down to a dealer and do an audition or take home a UQ2 for a trial through your Dynaudio speakers

I tried for multiple years and multiple configurations to be happy with the SBT as my source. I went through multiple DACs, pre-amps and amps, integrateds, power supplies and configurations. I drove myself a bit crazy with the whole thing. I can tell you without hesitation that the Qute V1 that i ended up purchasing is both a better Source (using the internal DAC) and a better digital transport (using the digital out) than the SBT (with I-fi USB Power Supply)

There are better DACs than the one in the Qute (which I have upgraded to), but it is better than the SBT.  My final system only uses the Qute as a source to an external DAC. If I had purchased new I am not sure how happy I would be, but I purchased ex-demo at much less than half retail.

Well, you have to try UQ2 with your speakers in situ and see if you like it more as streamer/amp over SBT/Nait combo. Nait5i (italic) is a very good and special integrated that may be already gelling well with your speakers.. Adding a quality linear PSU and a nice outboard DAC to SBT would upgrade it as your source.

SBT + DAC-V1 =

"Who could ask for anything more"

IMHO of course.

Well a SBT and nDAC actually!

I'm using the above combo into 552>300>SL2 system. I have both a SuperUniti and Uniqute in the house also. I have not have the issues Brubacca had with the SBT, I think it's an excellent source with the EDO upgrade.

SBT also give you access to access to Qobuz as well as Spotify and Tidal. And of course I couldn't post without mentioning that the SBT is a Roon enabled.

I wouldn't even consider the move sideways it would be backwards IMNSHO.

+1 for the SBT/nDAC combination. After moving house I used this source with a Nait 3 and Royd Eden speakers (as a temp measure until we could get the main system set up) - a very enjoyable system and if you use the variable digital output from the SBT you even have a remote volume control.

Pity Logitech stopped making the SBT.

I didn't have issues with the SBT, in fact I use if at my TV with a meridian explorer for occasional music.  It just wasn't good enough for what I wanted in the main system.  The Qute as a source to my Schiit Gungnir MB is awesome.  I had wanted to move the Qute to my TV so I moved my SBT to the Hi-Fi and compared the sound of SBT-USB-Gumby to Qute-BNC-Gumby and the Qute was noticably superior sounding. So the SBT went back to the TV.

I agree that you should try the Qute2 directly to your Dynaudio Speakers.  It may be what you are looking for.

i would have loved to try a Dac V1 or nDac with the SBT, but I couldn't afford either option.
