Reset after BT broadband crash in Uk

Posted by: Belfast Taxman on 02 February 2016

After the total loss of service for about three hours today, I am struggling to regain all my streaming services. Spotify seems okay although I have had a few droputs, but Tidal simply does not want to open at all. Any advice welcome

Radio Paradise 320 is a bit "glitchy" this evening.

The report I read a couple of hours ago suggested BT were still working on problems.

At 23:00 (local time) yesterday BT report all services are fully restored & that a faulty router was to blame for the problem.
Funny that,  just like a lot of customers have been telling them about BT routers  ...........

Blimey, there was I sailing through all of this in blissful ignorance, but I have Sky. Not being totally facetious here as I thought that Sky used BT copper, or am I wrong? Let's put it this way I have two wires entering my house, one installed by BT and one by Virgin.

Sky use the same string as BT from the exchange to your house, but once the string reaches the (BT owner) exchange it is connected to Sky owned equipment.

The access network (copper/fibre) is seperate from Internet. Like many large ISPs BT has its own internet 'space' before it connects to primary tiering points. I understand it was in this BT specific Internet address space that there was a routing issue caused by a router fault causing an interruption to service.

ISPs like Sky using BT's access network connect to their own back haul at the BT exchange . It is this ISP specific back haul that will have seperate ISP routers that connect to the Internet Therefore an internal Internet routing issue with one ISP does not affect other ISPs that have their own back haul.
