Supernait 2 Question
Posted by: badlands on 03 February 2016
I would like some info on the new DR Supernait 2. When did Naim improve the Supernait 2 to DR status? At what serial number did this occur? Or would there be some kind of DR badge on the unit to show that it is a current DR model?
Also, does the Supernait 2 use the NA009 transistors that are used in the 250-2 DR. Thanks for the info.
If these questions were asked before, don't hate. Thanks.
Supernait 2 (aka SN2) was introduced in mid 2013 and it came with "DR" preamp from day one. There are no "DR" marks on the casing. It just reads "Supernait 2" at the back.
No, it does not use NA009.
The Supernait 2 looks quite distinct compared to the original (only a single row of buttons and big hp socket) so impossible to mistake one for the other.
Lack of a DAC on the SN2 another clue.
It's perhaps worth pointing out that the DR bit of the SN2 is the power supply for its preamp. It does not have a DR power amp.

No, but the guy's obviously got it into his head that the Supernait2 itself has been 'updated' since its introduction in 2013, which is not the case. How this misconception gained currency is one of the wonders of the hifi forums....

And what a superb difference the DR preamp makes!
Thanks for all the information. Is it possible that a upgraded SN2 with the DR power amp and NA009 transistors could be a reality?
A Superdooper SN3 could be a reality.... who knows, and what difference does it make?

So, effectively a NAP250DR with a pre-amp, all in the same box.
Hmmm... we're going need a bigger box!
Or maybe split them into separate boxes - should sound better too.
Oh....

It would make a world of difference if the DR upgrade to the amplifier section is as good as people on this forum have stated it is compared to non DR amplifiers. What a great service it would be to potential Naim owners to provide a product equal to a 250-2 DR in a single box.
Especially if one is in the market for a new integrated amp and wants the latest and greatest, as good as the SN2 is, why pay for dated technology when Naim obviously has the knowledge and components to make it a better product, why not make it a reality? If it is at all possible.
SN4= increased sales and market share. Obviously skip the 3 version, as it would be a huge improvement over the current SN2!

It makes none, now you are gone, and your prejudice won't keep you warm tonight.
We should deploy more Smiths lyrics in the Hifi Corner.
Speculation at best. Listen to what Richard said, do you not think Naim would have done that if they could, DR was already in SN2 for the pre section. There is no room for a 250DR inside, and why would you when at that point it is still more adventageous to separate the two boxes.

it was really nothing

Oh no Nigel, i'd never have known that was a Smiths lyric as every time they come on the radio i turn it off for fear of a dark cloud coming over me.....
It would be better if Gary was called William.
You can tell a true fan Nigel by the way they attempt to promote their group in the face of adversity. I admire you for your faith (although I'd still question your hearing) ![]()
