NDX unable to play some albums from NAS

Posted by: Levon on 05 February 2016

Hello,

I've been finding that my NDX is refusing to play some of my albums that are on my NAS drive. Some of them play absolutely fine while with others the NDX display states it can't connect. I can't remember if I've ever attempted to play these albums on the NDX before so I can't be certain that the problem has existed since they were first ripped or whether it is a new problem

The other odd thing is I can play these albums fine on my SONOS system.

Anyone with any ideas/suggestions?

Cheers,
Levon.

Might be helpful to know NAS make, the UPnP server make (Asset, Mimserver etc) & the album file type (FLAC, WAV etc)

NAS: QNAP TS421

Upnp: twonkymedia

Format: Flac (ripped from CD)

Cheers

OK,   I know diddly squat about tWonkey,   but if it was my Synology Media Server I would re-index,  clear Naim app audio & art cache's & would expect it to work.

After that if still no go,  you need a Twonkey expert.

After trying various things like re-indexing and clearing caches without any success, it finally sprung into life after reinstalling the iPad App. Cheers

it might be a problem with the TAG's - Twonkey uses Album artist as main TAG - check the albums that dont play with Twonkey - had same issue when I was running twonkey - i also have QNAP -

it might be worth looking at Asset - in future found it better than wonkey

hope this helps

Yes, I think that a lot of forum members have had issues with twonky in the past and I know that the QNAP servers support both Asset and MInimserver. Minimserver supports DSD streaming on QNAP but Asset doesn't yet (I believe that they're working on it).

Incidentally, there seem to be 2 separate ID3 tags for album artist i.e. "Album Artist" and "AlbumArtist" so it may be worthwhile using a belt and braces approach and completing both these tags (or adding one if it is missing) using the same tag value of course.

Look at the tagging on the albums that will play, look at the tagging on the albums that won't play, and see if there's a pattern!
