isolation platforms

hi everyone just wondered if anyone on here has tried oscars isolation platforms are they any good .
'fraid not - I use Audiophile Base01 for my CD5XS and that works a treat.
Who's Oscar, and does he know you've nicked his isolation platforms? ![]()
Actually, the whole question of isolation is one I'd be interested to hear about - I have a load of sorbothane sitting waiting for something to do. I tried my CD5 XS on some sorbothane pads that lift it about 3mm higher than its feet... couldn't say I heard any difference, but then I wasn't really listening critically. Something to re-visit.
I too use the Audiophile Base platforms for my Naim Uniti1 and Nap-100 amplifiers. To my ears a subtle improvement and worthwhile over just the wood shelving I currently have my gear placed upon.
I don't know much about the Oscar platforms, just a bit of reading. Give it a try if you can get your money back if they do not prove to make any improvement to your ears.
I use RA Torlyte platforms and I've always been immensley pleased with the results
As expected the best reulsts are with mechanical components such as CD players
However, you will hear improvements to a lesser degree for non-mechanical components such as pre-amps (due damping of microphony?)
They're not cheap new but they often crop up on that auction site for around half the full price
I have recently bought two Fraims but haven't yet got around to setting them up
From what I've read about their efficacy I'm not sure I'll need the platforms once all the kit is on the Fraims
Maybe my ears/system aren't revealing enough but...
I've tried a few different isolating devices from Ikea bamboo cutting board to SSC isolation feet to Vibrapods to sorbothane pads. I can't say I could hear a difference.
Theoretically I can understand placing them under inexpensive, flimsy components. I fail to see how they could improve on a weighty Naim integrated that is already supposed to have proper isolation/damping built in and sits solidly on a shelf.

I bought stillpoints ultra 5s to support my amp on the floor due to the Fraim not being big enough to house. With the weight of the Vitus, and due to having a really deep carpet, the amp forced its way to being almost sitting on the carpet after only a couple of days. With the stillpoints ESS sounding better with my kit anyway, I ordered a new stand and boxed the stillpoints up to go back to my dealer. Having felt how much vibration and physical noise the HDX generated I unpacked the Ultra5s and put them under it. The difference was huge, so much so that I kept them. Tried under the ndac too. Sound improved but could only use 3 due to the ndac case not being fully true!
