Super Lumina Speaker Cable. More Music?
Posted by: Bodger on 11 February 2016
Yes I was following the other thread. With great interest as I had just ordered 3m myself. First listen was a few moments ago. Not 7 months run in yet by any means so this is really a first impression.
I popped on Keb Mo (Peace etc) on CD. No vinyl as yet. From cold I can follow more detail in the music. The backing vocals in For What It’s Worth; then the muted octave bass stabs in Wake Up Everybody. Great start in my case and if it gets better over time, then excellent. I do expect more bumps along the way however.
It seems the similar and opposite thread has run out of steam now so I expect few replies to this – especially as it is hardly controversial. Happy chap.

Ps, I now know the weakest link are the speakers. Many current threads on this so no need for another side track.

I am just waiting for the overall presentation to settle down and smooth off those edges. Even should this not occur, I cannot imagine reverting to A5.
This 'edge' does disappear with more run-in.
I've had my set for more than 6 months and can still hear improvements, although most was over the first few weeks.
The cables are more revealing so some system set-up things can be more worth attention than was needed before.
But I think with all exotic HiFi cables they should reveal enough of what they are doing within the first few minutes of use to entice you to see the run-in through or leave you unmoved to want to go on with it.

Suitably enticed. I will be seeing these through the run in. Enjoying every minute.

The SL speaker cables now have some 30+ hours on them. Last week was very patchy and I stopped listening several times, left a cd on repeat and went to bed. That would have been around the 20 hours mark. Tonight I have listened to a mix of vinyl and CD. I keep hearing nuances I have not heard before and depth previously not there. The trouble is Imhav e to stop reading and look where the sound is coming from. And go downstairs and pick up my bass as I feel compelled to join in. Result.

Patience rewarded. Enjoy ![]()

Things start to get really interesting around a 100-hour mark.
Have patience - it's worth it!
Better or worse?
Much , much better.

Nice gear Adam, looked at your profile!
Curios, your Living room!
A Dred front & rear end 282/SCDR/250DR
Great! For understanding!
SL- Amp to Speakers
SL- Source to 282
SL- SCDR to XLR 250 DR
Does that complete the Full Loom?
The Armchair QB!!!
Eyeballing a SCDR at this very moment!
My cables have been here for a few weeks now, and are very different to how they were when they first arrived. Everything is much more open and relaxed and just more... musical. The sound is so much more engrossing and just so nice to listen to. Impressive for being unimpressive, if that makes any sense at all.
For now the SuperCap and 250 are warming up / breaking in. 282 is approximately 2.5 years new.
Once the new gear settles, I will start experimenting with some different interconnects.

Wow, you read me Crystal Clear. One thing for sure your SL Speaker cable will be well broken in.
Makes a lot of sense, don't introduce any upgrades until former gear is broken in!
282 broken in!
SL Speaker Cable broken in!
SCDR & 250 will be good to go in a couple of months!
SL IC from source to Pre
or
SL XLR IC from SC to Amp
Sure would be nice if someone gave up on some SL IC's, bet you would pick them up in a heart beat, with x number of hours already logged in!
Otherwise, which IC first, the traditional Source route, or the XLR IC's!
Thanks for the info.
Enjoy your Music!

I will be putting a full loom of PowerLines on the NDX /282/SC/250 over the weekend.
As to interconnects:
My 'instinct' tells me - source (NDX) to pre will go first - for now I use my spare TQ Black Din. I plan to audition: TQ Black Diamond (easy - just move it from other system), HiLine and SuperLumina. Expect to start testing by the end of March.
Around the same time I plan to test an XPS. No sense to test it now given how new all components are.

Don't post often, but since I am hoping to upgrade my 500 series system in the near future, I am looking for some input from forum members which path I should take.
I have already DR'd the 552 PS, and am contemplating either DR'ing the NAP 500 or purchasing SL speaker cables. Finances will not allow both at present.
Currently have Hi-Line IC between CDS3 and 552. Using NACA 5 SC's. Speakers are Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand SE's.
So, new SL SC's or DR'ing the 500 amp as my next move?
SL speaker cables are spectacular. Best if you can borrow them from your dealer and simply hear what they do.
When I put them into my modest set up the effect was as if a veil was lifted. They are very transparent and simply let the other components shine.

The length of speaker cable you require may influence your choice. What might it be?

Go for the SL speaker cables first, as they work wonderfully with the 500. There is a clarity and immediacy with these cables which opens-up all music anew for me every time I play things I know well - always more there than I can take-in, very satisfying. Some have said the timing is not as good as A5, but I find the opposite - especially in low-bass lines with speed and definition I never managed before.
Get the SL speaker cables first, as they are near-instant pleasure, then also consider the Hi-Line upgrade to SL Interconnect or get the two together, as they really complement.
The DR 500 is very worthwhile too, but all I know who have raved about this already have the SL cables, and from how I hear things the SL cables will act as a good foundation to the DR upgrade. Also, if your 500 does not yet need a re-cap, then pushing it out another year or so makes financial sense - and the SL cables will not be getting less expensive, so get them sooner rather than waiting for a price-increase.
DB.
I absolutely agree with all DB says. The SL cable opens up new depths in the bass control and extension.. that's what I found too. You wouldn't pursuade me to return to NAC A5 in a month of Sundays.
Having said that, I have not heard the 500 DR upgrade effect, but I have heard what it brings to 300's and 250's and I'm reliably informed that the 500 DR effect is more subtle... so to me that's a strong indicator to do the S/L change first... subtle it 'ain't ![]()

ThanKs for the replies. Will go with the SL cables first, as I only require the 3 meter length.
certainly cheaper than the DR route for the 500!!
