Unitilite upgrade to.......

Posted by: Anto68 on 15 February 2016

Hello everyone, I'm back again and as often happens it is always a pleasure to exchange views with you

I have some advice to ask you: I would like to increase the sound quality of my new excellent UL

what step is best:

1) add to my UL a power amp like Nap 150/155xs... or other options

2) seel UL and buy the Superuniti?

I am extremely happy with UL performance but i would like more

I went from a UL to a SU for my office system and one thing you get with the SU over the UL plus NAP 200 is a much better DAC.  I found the SU just felt relaxed and in control in a way that it's little brother never did, even though it was because the UL sounded so good that I found myself wondering about the SU.  Also less tangibly, the SU looks and feels like proper Naim, heavy with a very nice volume control on the front panel.

Yes David, It was really my first sensation especially the  Bass wich i felt much more relaxed and less intrusive than with UL. To the untrained ear it might seem that UL has more power: I've noticed that with SU I can increase the volume effortless.

But there is something that worries me : when I turn off the SU from main switch on the back I hear a disturbing noise from the speakers: it's normal? when I turn it on does not feel, I just feel it when I switch off.

Yes, that's normal. Don't turn it off and you'll be fine.

Thank's a lot , your quick feedback makes me happy.

Too bad if the OP is getting rid of the UL. One thing for which I'd keep mine if I had one is its amp. There is nothing presently in the Naim line-up sounding just like it, like the old olive gear: open, clear, cheerful, assertive. Once dismissed, there will only be the stereotyped voice of the SU, indistinguishable from any other excellent amp of these days. But, it's not my business.

Ciao Massimo

Thanks for leaving your opinion. I spent two months with my UL and I can confirm that it has a special heart, its amp, clear, open and mysteriously powerful for just 50W declared.

But the SU is another beast, delivery me same music stage wich UL gave me but with more control, best class. With my compact Elac is fabulous but I did a test from my dealer with Brodmann F2 and PMC Fact 8 , breathtaking sound.

I loved my UL but now I do not regret

Why the mute function control from the logo does not work? it worked only sometimes.

Into setting ' front display' I switch on the mute function for the logo. Some SU owner can try form me if it works regularly?

Thank's for your help

When I had an SU I had to put my thumb on the logo to mute. With the 272 I only need to tap it with my finger. I suspect it's your technique that needs improving.

I switch off  the logo mute function and than on again from setting menu and now it work. I think rather an imperfection on the logo sensitivity but is not a big deal form me. Same happen with spotify, sometime the display show "attendere" (wait in english) and is impossible stop or change the audio stream: to restore it i have to unable spotify from setting and than on again but the problem is my instability of my internet network because it also occurs with the UL.

You'd think it would say attendere prego- it's not very polite, is it?

Yes I think this is a network problem that you are seeing with Spotify, especially as it affects two streamers. You may find that rebooting your router solves both at the same time and many of us here have found using a simple network switch like the Netgear GS105 to connect all your audio kit back to your router with a single cable often resolves these sort of problems.
