Tidals owner Jay Z strapped for cash after revealing USD 53m debt on Twitter
Posted by: GregW on 15 February 2016
In order to drum up some cash he's suspended the sale of his new album in hope that fans sign up to Tidal instead. He goes on to say:
All you dudes in San Fran play rap music in your homes but never help the real artists...You'd rather open up one school in Africa like you really helped the country... if you want to help... help me.
I'm not sure how much sympathy he's going to get from the Valley.

Kanye West?
Uh, but if you read the article carefully, it is Kanye West who is in debt for 53 mil, not Jay Z. Evidently Kanye has a deal to stream his new album exclusively on Tidal.
I think you might find that Kanye West said the above, not Jay-Z.
Having seen his rants (Kanye West) on the news websites and his attempts at coercing Mark Zuckerburg of FaceBook via twitter to give him $1billion so he can fulfil his full potential for the world, I don't know whether to laugh or rejoice. It certainly won't be to shed a tear. To claim that giving money to him would be better than giving to Africa I hits a new low even for him; I struggle to think of a more odious piece of slime.
I suspect Kanye may be mentally ill. He is probably surrounded by yes men and has an inflated sense of his own importance. Like a Michael Jackson or a Howard Hughes he is now deteriorating under stress . Sad.
He must be mentally ill to have seriously thought that version of Bohemian Rhapsody was something to sing in public. If I was Mark Zuckerburg I'd give the billion on condition that he never sang again and relocated to an island somewhere in the middle of nowhere
Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.
They say that if you cannot say anything nice, then don't say anything at all.
But, Kanye West is surely the exception to this. Was there anyone watching - across the whole world - who agreed with him when he made his Glastonbury comment?
For the sake of artistry, humanity, decency, and common sense, I hope not.
"Odious" is right.
I think he is an intense guy with a big ego, as time has gone on, he has got more self indulgent but that is no different from the big stars of the previous generation. They just didn't have twitter.
Kanye West was on stage at the Tidal "relaunch" as one of the co-owners.

Pitchfork (modern day Melody Maker) voted his album as the record of the decade so far and his other album was 7th. It's readership mostly reflect that opinion. Glastonbury was bizarre in that he changed to another song every 2 mins as he seemed to get bored with a song and wanted to move on. Hip Hop still splits the opinion 'this is crap' in the same way that Rock music did 40 to 50 years ago.

Rock musicans were and are......well.....musicians.......rap works on samples and no one probably even knows what a minor chord is.
I like some rap and there is some real talent but I dont think that the analogy is correct. Some of the death metal (which I find unlistenable) is really competent musicanship....rap is use of technology and vocal rhythm, often without a key. ......if it is only rhythm without key I am not sure it is music.
But.....stronger by Kanye is a great pop song.......
Jayz's ego has over reached....but then streaming is a can of worms and kudos to him for trying to change the dynamic
But it is back to the age old discussion what is art...
Off topic I know ....but if Kanye can rant ...why can't I?

Technology is a key part of pop music and so is innovation.
I still maintain the energy from the Public Enemy's gigs in the late 80's made them the best rock'n'roll band on the planet in that period.

That must have been a surprise and a disappointment to:
"The greatest living artist, and greatest artist of all time."
As Mr West so modestly styles himself*
*which, if you think about it, manages to combine mild hubris with dramatic tautology. What a guy!
Moog posted:However, I have just learnt 2 new words for my limited vocabulary 'hubris' and 'tautology'.
Both good words, as I hope you agree!
Here's another: "Tmesis", which is not only the sole word in the English language which begins with 'tm', but also means - delightfully - the act of splitting one word apart with another. As in:
Kanye West is abso-f*cking-lutely bonkers
