iRadio for HDX

Anybody??

I guess we who bought a HDX when it was new got ript off. It was to expensive compared to the sound quality of the newer products and we will never see a radio in it, just accept it.

Seriously?

Wasn't there a remark to the effect of, "we will not comment on unreleased products or features until officially approved" or something like that?

If it's not ready, it's not been announced yet.

I bought mine because I favored the sound quality. I was not in the least bit ripped off. All these frilly bits that will be incorporated are nice to have and will be welcome. Quite why I would ever buy a component that didn't do what I wanted it to do at the time I bought I have no idea.

Like Harry, I too am very impressed with the HDX as an all round product.

Sound quality, particularly with the DAC, is very good and the fact it is a simple solution that single handedly rips, stores, controls and plays all my music, including downloaded computer music if I want to, is absolutely ideal for me. 

Nothing else I know of does all this and provides this sound quality.  The NDX may sound a little better and other computer based audio may be cheaper but I'm not pulling my hair out trying to understand all the computer based terminology and compatablilty issues I read about here.  Quality plug, play and enjoy!    So as a bonus I still have all my hair..............admittedly it's very grey but I can attribute that to other things in my household

Let's make one thing clear: I have bought my HDX because I loved the sound quality and the ease of use regarding the all-in-one-box solution for ripping, storage, etc. I've never enjoyed my music collection more than with the HDX and have never bought so many new CD's. One thing is for sure: it will stay in my system for a very long time!

Just curious about the iRadio upgrade, that's all ...

Sorry for my hard and unfair post

I have had my HDX for two years now and I have always been more than satisfied with my purchase. I Use it every day and have tremendous enjoyment with it and my hi-line -nait xs - powerline - fraim - totem system. I don´t think that it´s poor sounding, then I would not have bought it. I just think that the price in the beginning was a little steep and I did not know that the radio was in the making. I thought that the radio was never going to happen.

I believe it's similar to the 1.5a SP2 upgrade a couple of months ago. This was in the form of a .zip file with an .ISO image file you can download. The ISO needs to be burned to a CD. Went very smooth!

If I had iRadio would there be any point in having a Tuner any more?

I think I'm really asking what the quality of iRadio is like compared to DAB/FM etc. I really have not got into using it on my Qute yet, but shall. Tend to use DAB on that, and very nice quality it is too. I have  a Tuner in my main system (and an HDX).

I also have a tuner next to the HDX in my system. Since I barely listen to it (always as background music), iRadio on the HDX would be great. If I like it, I'll consider to sell the tuner and spend the money elsewere on my system...

Michel - thats ok then,  :-)  I also find a subscription to Mojo works as well - i just love their cover CDs, just need to wait a little while for the track names and album art to appear for ripping for my NDX.

I have just bought and installed an HDX SSD version and I couldn't be more pleased with the sound quality. It runs from my PS555 which just makes it sing. The HDX has been a flag ship product in the Naim portfolio so I wouldn't be surprised if they do add iRadio functionality soon. Just be patient and enjoy what you have. 

I use several Devolo ethernet over Powerline adaptors with great success. My MacBooks back up over the same network (different Devolo) to a Timecapsule, often at the same time as I'm playing/ripping without any problems.

The NAS I use is a QNAP TS 219 Pro. The HDX just set itself up (almost). Just follow the instructions in the manual.

I suspect that iRadio will just be a software upgrade since the HDX already has access to the internet. My experience of Naim (30 years plus) is that if they do decide to make this available, they will want to get it right.

Control via an iPad could not be easier. I have ripped around 150 CDs so far with absolutely no problems. Sure, there are around 6 that the databases the HDX uses on the internet, didn't have the album art or got it confused a little, but these are minor issues.

Due to the simplicity of using the HDX, I've already discovered tracks/albums i had not really "heard" before.
