NAP150 bolt down. When was it released?
Posted by: Carlos Chean on 17 February 2016
I just bought a NAP150 that I missed on ebay a couple of weeks earlier. The ebay buyer is moving to another direction and I was lucky enough to grab this. However, I could not find any info on the web and this is the only NAP150 I've ever seen. Is anyone familiar with this model?
NAP150 was released in 2001. It was, in theory never, available in a"bolt down" format. Maybe Richard Dane can confirm it's authenticity or otherwise?
Willy.
Are you sure that it not a NAP 160?
They definitely were first issued in a bolt together casework.
ATB from George
Definitely looks like a 160. Shame it's not original spec.
Going by the S/no, 1982 limited run?
C.
Itlooks like an early bolt-down 160 or a 250 but the add definitely says 150
The 150 was primarily mde for the AV market to go with the three channel 175, at least I think so. And the 150 IIRC came in a "flatline" style case ie it was thinner than the 160 and 250.
To be honest, at present i'm not at all certain what this product is...........

Wasn't that the 145 ?

As does the plate on the back.

My NAP160 had a serial number 147 IIRC. and I bought that quite a few years before 1981.
Interesting !
It looks like a 160 with a respary on the case.
The 150 is from the current Classic Series OP.
The 160 was one if the first power amps JV built and is still quite the peach.
It does look like a NAP160, but then, why the Naim sticker with the designation "NAP150"? A prototype maybe?
If thats right you have done an excellent very high value purchase
MutiCap and Mundorf caps?
The amp has been seriously molested, I see.
It is not going to sound like a proper Naim amp and it is going to cost a small fortune to get it to the right specs if it's even possible.
Make sure you check a DC offset before you connect it to your amp.
Agree with Kuma, especially the part about the DC offset. Could be a very expensive "first listen"...
From the mods I see it's more like a NAP ZERO.

It looks like someone has taken the old Naim logo (a sort of foil sticker) and then run it through an old typewriter, but made an error with the model number.
It looks substantially modified. It certainly won't sound like a NAP160 should. I'd have it checked out before plugging it in.
For clarity, there is no such thing as a bolt down 150, I suspect it was a simple typo in the ebay listing.

maybe not so lucky then !

My initial thoughts but the photographs with the ebay listing clearly show a "Naim label" on the back of the amp that is stamped "NAP150".
Willy.
Except the label is actually an old metal logo label, as used on the front of the bolt-down amps - these were available for years as a spare part. It's not a proper s/n label - these were never available as a spare part. The typo is in the label...
Ahh, the plot thickens!
Good observation by our esteemed moderator.
Too many unknown variables with this box. It frightens me ![]()
The metal front labels were also used for a promotional key ring back in the day. I have one somewhere. Sounds like the provenance of this "150" is rather suspect.
I'm not sure I would touch it with a barge pole.......
.....and for sure I wouldn't touch it with my fingers when it was powered up.....

Hello Richard,
Why can't I see the picture?
