500 DR upgrade time
Posted by: Harry on 18 February 2016
I've just been contacted by Audience Bath to tell me that our 500 is going in next week. I will report accordingly.
Also for information. Anyone in Bath between now and the week after the Bristol show can hear the Statement amps at Audience. We're going to toddle in at some point. Fools that we are.
Dave J posted:Ghettoyout posted:Regarding how long you can expect to wait, I got my 500 added to the queue a week last Friday and I have been quoted a date for end of June/beginning of July.
Really? I booked my 300 in back in January and have been told there's no sign of a date.
Anticipation!
Er, yes really.
This is the date I would need to take it into my dealers. So need to add a couple of weeks before I get it back.
My dealer booked it in and Naim have advised him of the date. So I think it is all genuine. Personally, I think it is quite a long wait but I suppose there is quite a demand for this upgrade and, by all accounts, it is a lengthy build. Just have to be patient.
The word that sums it up for me is “clarity”.
There is more of it. None of the tightness, drive, grip, musicality or 500ness has diminished.
You just get more of a feeling that you can hear exactly what you are listening to.
Note to self – don’t try the S1. After the 500DR it must be nothing short of witchcraft considering how good it’s lesser sibling sounds in DR spec.
As seems to be the case as reported with the 250 and 300, the DR spec is not an incremental improvement. It’s a different amp. And a better one by a big margin. Sure I could live with a non DR spec 500. Of course I could. It’s still magic – but not at the RRP of a new 500. Those posts have moved.
It’s been a good few years these past four or so for my music collection. And I've probably still got a stack of running in to go.
Some of you are shortly going to be amazed and happy. It will be worth the wait.
i am trying to avoid reading posts like this but failing miserably, evidently... ![]()

Sorry Ken.
P.S. Don't read this.
PPS Post error. Should have been Statement power amps, not the S1 pre which I mustn't try. Although I do need to avoid the S1 too.
I just need to avoid trying the 500DR (or 552 for that matter).
Gotta keep my marriage together!

It gives me pain to read this post. So hoped that you all would be dissapointed and that I could push away the upgrade devil. While in my heart I knew it wouldn't be a reality ........:-)
I only own a humble 250 DR, but I would agree with Harry on "clarity" and the second word I would use is "flow"
the music just flows, effortlessly ![]()

Totally agree with the comments on the 250DR. Could also add the adjectives, lucid, agile, pure, insightful, balanced and that is just the 250DR. Goodness knows what the 500DR must sound like although the OP has given us a real insight (bit like the amp I guess).
let's just say I am well pleased with 250DR, and have no particular urge or craving to find about 300 DR or 500 DR

Well, not bad, when one puts things into perspective!
ChordMusic (1m analogue RCA interconnect £3,800)
ChordMusic distils 30 years of cable design and construction knowhow into an extraordinary and musically revelatory product line. ChordMusic has been developed using an entirely new insulation material called Taylon®, which has never before implemented in audio cables. Taylon® is a phase-stable dielectric material and when combined with the unique Super ARAY conductor geometry, takes cable performance to a completely new level.
Where Sarum Tuned ARAY and then Super ARAY opened the window onto the performance, ChordMusic kicks the door down and lets you wander into an extraordinary musical landscape.

And well worth every penny ![]()
I'm not complaining. The 500DR is another amp and it's only gained in the transition. In the context of the whole system or for that matter, the SL full loom, it's a fair price for the gain. Of course I'd rather pay less - who wouldn't?!

actually that is not at all bad turnaround!
I got quoted 23rd May, then told a delay to June ... and today given the date of 8th August.
Things are not quite as fast a turnaround in practice! ![]()
DB.
After nine long weeks, yes nine very long weeks!, my 500 + PS have finally come home after being serviced and DR’d.
All is forgiven Naim as I was on the point of frustration with it all but The Sound Organisation (York) saved my sanity, and complaints, lent me a 250 a couple of weeks ago, so thank you David and Hamish.
As regards the service and DR I am really delighted and after 24 hours of warm up, and 30+ years of being hooked to Hi-Fi, this is one of the best upgrades I have ever made and all thoughts of SL v Chord v xyz have evaporated!
How can I put it……. but more of what I like in terms of engagement and excitement especially at volume!
I think this sums it up as I am currently playing The Doors “Live At The Aquarius Theatre The First Performance” on vinyl (my drug of choice) and whilst I never saw The Doors live, I have now man!
“When the music’s over, Turn out the lights!”
Richard
congratulations Richard! you describe the effect very apetizingly.
next time you talk to Hamish, please pass my regards -- if he remembers me at all from his time at the then Sound Org in Ldn.
but really, i am trying to avoid reading threads like this -- so i simply dont know how i wandered into ithis one... ![]()

Went to my dealer on Friday to enquire about timings of my 500 DR upgrade. Originally it was end of June/beginning of September when I booked it in in April. It is now end of August/beginning of September. Perfection can't be rushed I was told. It's a fair point. You need to be patient in the DR game.
Just as an alternative, you could do what I have done thanks to Audio T. Traded in my 3x 500's and bought 3 new 500'DR's, it took 3 weeks to complete and sounds excellent.

i have 'considered' this -- for me it would 'only' be 2 x NAP500DRs. i wish!!! reality kicked that idea out thru the window very quickly. ![]()
