Supercap DR to SNAXO

Posted by: Gavin L on 26 February 2016

Its back!  After what seemed like forever, but was a little under 3 weeks, my SNAXO is back, together with 2 new Powerlines and a new Supercap DR. Even from the outset it is sounding great!

To recap, my SNAXO is now adjusted for my odd 500/300/500 setup (and left/right channels are no longer switched).  My old Olive Supercap is replaced by a new DR model and I have added 2 Powerlines so that the 555, 552 and SNAXO all benefit.

What about the sound?  Well I finally hear for myself what everyone has been talking about for the last couple of years.  The DR has added a lot more "depth" to the overall sound.  You can hear the silence, bass sounds cleaner.  The overall sound appears more relaxed, delicate (in a good way) with quite different presentation to many of the instruments - particularly in the higher frequencies. Sounds stage is improved too.

As for run in, more complex (rock) music initially sounded a little tight - which I put down to the usual warm up/run in.  Although, even in the last few hours this is now probably where the last system left off.  Including the best part of an hour spent redressing all the cables (somewhat obsessively) which may have helped.

Looking forward to how it develops over the next few days/weeks .

It has been a couple of weeks, not as much listening as I would like.  The depth of the basis is superb.  Good sound stage, natural, a bit relaxed - but in a good way.  I think vocals are perhaps a little "back" - although that could be me adjusting to the new SNAXO setup (which was adjusted to take account that I use a 300 on the mid).
