Problem with album information and question about 272 functionality

Posted by: Nisse on 27 February 2016

Hi,

I have trouble with my Unitiqute (again!!!!!). When I press the button to get information of an album, it says “Searching for metadata”. It only appears on the ipad, iphone works ok (so it cannot be a problem with Rivo/Allmusic). I have had this problem before. Once it was solved by updating Unitiqutes firmware, another time by updating the ipads OS. Now there is no update available.

How can this be solved? I have done reset/restart of everything I can think of, both on the Unitiqute and on the ipad.

Another question. I’m thinking of upgrading to NAC 272 (I have a NAP 200 connected to the Unitiqute). Has anyone experience of the functionality on the 272? I’ve had a lot of problems with the Unitiqute and if I’m going to spend a lot of money on a 272, I want it to work 100%, not only sounding good.

I've had the same issue over past few days with Rovi either unable to find an album or getting stuck on searching for metadata. Also, when I click on the find album in Amazon link it defaults to (null) (null).

Have tried resetting the app and am using the latest version of the app on my ipad2.

I've moved this thread to the Streaming Room for you where you should get more response.

I stream from a Qnap NAS using asset to my 272 and it has been bullet proof. I think I've had to "reboot" the 272 twice in 4 months and I suspect on both occasions it was the AirPort Extreme I have connected to it (via a Netgear switch) that upset it.

Its a Rovi problem - again.  !!!    I just checked & see the problem.  It was OK yesterday.  Its done this before,  there's nothing you can do other than wait for it to come back.  Don't try rebooting the player or playing with app installs,  that's a waste of time .... I'll report it on the beta forum,  but it is Saturday nite,  so don't expect Naim to see it until Monday;   maybe meanwhile if Rovi are playing it might get back to normal before then.

I've got a 272 and it works. What aspects of 'functionality' are you interested in?

Rovi isn't working at all for me, so presumably there's a problem at their end. I don't imagine there's anything Naim can do other than pester Rovi to get it sorted. Nisse, I'm surprised you're getting it to work on iPhone and not on iPad, as here it's not working on any device.

Regarding the 272, the functionality is essentially the same as the Unitiqute. Whatever problems you've had with the Qute, I wonder if they are network related. If so, they will likely affect a 272 in the same way.

When I tried today it doesn't work on the Iphone either. It's the first time that happens. Previous when I have had the problem, Iphone has worked, ipad hasn't.

When I asked about functionality I meant for instance, wifi, connectivity to Upnp server. These are things I have had problem with on the Qute. Wifi doesn't work at all anymore. I had a period when the Qute was connected to the network (by cable) but couldn't find the Upnp server. If I buy a 272 I want everything to work all the time.

If you set up your network properly it will work.

+1 .........  exactly,  there is no short cut with this.  Whilst it seems that wireless networking is a simple plug & play 'no-brainer',  it does have issues:  first is that while it might be OK with 16/44 files, it will begin to struggle with 24-bit & with 24/192 it will probably not work. Next (unlike a simple cable) wireless is another device component & the more layers of devices you have there are more opportunities for things to go wrong.

With a network its best to keep it simple - KISS - If you have a good quality router it can be the audio network "hub".  The network is ethernet wired on one branch to the network player on another branch to the NAS or whatever UPnP server you use. One step better is to not use the router as a switch (which it might not be anyway) & to have a single ethernet feed from the router to a proper network switch & feed the player & NAS on branches from the switch.

Thanks for reporting this, Mike.

Rovi appears to be working again now...

Posted on: 28 February 2016 by Wolf R

... and it is still unavailable for Android users by design. When will Naim change this?

Iphone works now, but ipad not!!!

I hate this shit!!!!!!!!!

Take it easy,  it's a Rovi problem, its not like its stopping the app working or preventing UPnP replay.  Rovi is an American corporation that supply similar entertainment support services on diverse platforms for a great many other brands. If Rovi are not aware of the problem with Naim,  I am sure they will as soon as the Naim folks get to work in the morning.

It's working again here. Nisse can put the defibrillator away.

..........  ???  I'm not sure its firing on all cylinders,  its working for most but its not displaying correctly with a few of my albums.
