Lovely Day With Fellow Naim Forumites
Posted by: tonym on 27 February 2016
So I've just spent a lovely day with the similarly afflicted, messing about with Hi-fi kit, eating lunch and generally having a super time. Every time we've got together I always find time rushes by, in the company of really nice folk. Yes, we're all bonkers but in a nice way! Attendees, from the left, Darke Bear (Gary), Minh, Foot Tapper (Ian), J.N. ,and myself, looking a bit distorted (it's the wide-angle lens, honest!).
We listened to various stuff on Melco (it's a winner, is that) & vinyl, using cabling I can't mention for fear of being taken out by the shady Naim hitmen. I'd been using DAVE, but my trusty QBD76, through a USB to SPDIF convertor, was much better. I thought the same when I first tried DAVE but it's good to have it confirmed by more ears.
Good fun and thanks for the excellent company!

Looks as though you had a good time, and you are right - the wide angled lens is not doing you any favours. The thing that most intrigues me is DB's interesting jumper...
Wondered why the forum was relatively quiet today - you guys were actually listening to music ![]()
Hi Tony
Many thanks for a most enjoyable day and the excellent hospitality. Thanks also to Maggs for the wonderful chilli and then there was the chocolate cake..!
It was also a genuine pleasure to finally meet Minh and Gary, as well as to catch up with John who could not help smiling like a Cheshire Cat whenever the phrase 50DR was mentioned. We suspect that he is quite pleased with his.
This is the second time that I have heard an active DBL system. They really are quite something. Absolutely brilliant and also utterly revealing of everything that happens upstream of the amps.
Tony's Melco + Chord QBD dac made some lovely music. I'm less certain about DAVE though, which was tremendously detailed yet a bit relentless.
Best regards, FT
Great pic Tony, one thing missing....me!!
Love reading these posts, like minded folk pending quality time together.Fantastic.
I think that is the first time I've seen that room in the "opposite" direction. Looks like a fun time was had by all!

Thanks to Tony and Mags for looking after us. Naim people are such nice people. A most enjoyable gathering to further our collective auditioning experiences as we dabbled with 'Dave' and various cables.
Music was discussed; played and appreciated - which is what it's all about.
John.
nice to put a face to the Naim handles..
i see contented looks
which is always great !
Who you calling shady Naim hitmen? Just askin'. Nice pic! You guys look nice enough. Not like everybody says ![]()
I gotta ask, what are the speakers hanging from the timbers?
Hi Clemenza, they be Naim nSats.
Typical Naim folks
. Hope you had a nice day.
Just come away from the naim demo for a the second time today, I think the best dems of the day.....not sure about the SL cables though....
Wenger,
I think you're posting on the wrong thread. Try posting on the Bristol Show 'sticky' thread instead.
Yes, it was a fun and interesting session with lots of 'toys' to play with - and the lovely hospitality was much appreciated!
Tony has a very capable system, which responded to what it liked with the various potential upgrades the way I have always found Active systems do.
DB.
Foot Tapper waved some very pricey-looking speaker cables under our noses. Wonder what they sound like? ![]()
A big thank you to Tony and Mags for the entertaining day. It was also a pleasure to meet Gary, Ian and John. We'll have to do this again! ![]()

Oh yes; Tony - I'd forgotten that. Even the wooden box looked a bit special.

Bless you Tony.
I note DB is wearing one of those new acoustic treated tops. I knew they were in Beta stages but had no idea they were in production!!!
This our little tribute to this socializing thread.
Last evening our fellow forumee Max Bertola (one the left) popped in with a fine bunch of jazz cds.
We spent a couple of years listening them plus a couple of medieval and baroque of mine, Unfortunately
for time constraints i had not the opportunity to pester him with my collection of feral dark ambient, industrial
and neo folk.
Regards
Roberto
