after your thoughts on stacking order if I may. I have a 5 shelf quadraspire unit with my kit stacked thus (from floor level up)

Under base shelf sat on the floor - Michelle gyro se power supply

Base shelf - Nap 250.2

shelf 2 - Hicap 2

shelf 3 - NAPSC, Arcam irdac, Graham Slee Era gold V

shelf 4 - Nac 282

top shelf - Gyro SE on isolation plinth

i only have the one rack at the moment so a brains - brawn split is a non starter, but any advice in the meantime would be appreciated

If there’s room on the floor, you might try moving the NAPSC there: the further away the NAPSC is from your 282, the happier it’ll be. I’m in a similar space predicament, and my NAPSC is on the floor behind and beside the rack, sitting on its edge behind a large plant. One of these days, I’ll build a dedicated tiny glass and fibreboard shelf for it, just like I did with my Audience aR6 PDC.

Taking it a step further, if you can get the two other boxes out from under the 282, it’ll be happier again. Most Naim preamps seem to like an empty shelf between them and other boxes. There’s always the risk that moving these boxes from a “proper” shelf causes more overall harm to SQ, but it’ll cost you nothing to try.

Put the hicap on the top shelf - that's why it's called a Hicap
