The following excerpt from the marketing blurb on their website for their Police release is a fine example of nonsense:

"This album was cut from a high-resolution digital transfer from the best known ΒΌ analogue tape in existence. (...) Also, as this was an analogue, vinyl only high quality release, I did not apply any digital limiting."

Mind-boggling.

What is digital limiting. All of this blinding with pseudo-science leaves me cold.

Though the guy was clear about the limitations of LPs which get progressively more the further in the groove is from the start near the outside edge ...

I think digital limiting is compression.

Than call it compression! Load of codswallop ....

Posted on: 29 February 2016 by Finkfan

Agreed! But.....what's codswallop? Hehe

Look it up ...

It's not quite the same thing, or rather: Limiting is a subset of compression. Typically it refers to the brickwall kind (a compressor with a very high compression ratio to avoid sounds going beyond a certain level).

The issue was claiming that because this was an analogue release they won't employ digital limiting but will do it from a digital transfer.

I actuality had to look it up.  Not a term encountered in Upstate New York.  Much more fun than just saying plain old nonsense.

+1 to you George.

Matt, try it in conversation. In Upstate New York, you will win by dint!

Bollocks is a useful alternative.

Bollocks is a wonderful word, not crude at all. Just say it with a smile.

+1 - 100% on the correct use of bollocks (with a smile),  its a friendly blokes way of talking.  My 2nd home (SA) has kak - a lovely "sound" that you really don't need to translate.  American's have buffalo chips  ..............  nothing crude at all in any.

Or complete utter tosh...

tosh nicely conjours up an image of  overinflated pomposity and ridicule  ... which fits quite nicely with the passages quoted to my mind...

It'll be interesting to hear how these lps sound. I have many 1/2 speed mastered records and some sound absolutely stunning. Pink Floyd - WYWH comes to mind.
