Anyone else ordered their Qb yet?

Posted by: Graham Clarke on 01 March 2016

Ordered mine from John Lewis this morning but will have to wait until the weekend to collect.  Not sure if that counts as  or  due to the wait.

Posted on: 01 March 2016 by Claus-Thoegersen

Ordered mine a few weeks ago. Was told that  all the units they could get were sold already. At that time it was 4, now up to 9, but as I understand it all of them already sold. I am picking mine up at my dealer  thursday at a speaker demo. Fantastic that they are released  worldwide at the same day. Usually we have to wait to get updates when living outside UK.

I've been told that I can collect mine at 10am tomorrow. However I can't manage that so it will probably need to be Thursday.

Claus,

John Lewis website indicated "more than 10 available".

Nigel,

Do let us know how you get on!

Ordered mine yesterday told I could collect from JL tommorow. Having said that when I went to collect my full fat Muso it wasn't there despite being told it was. Will see.

I intend to buy one but am just approaching a house move so will probably delay. However, I was passing by Currys yesterday and thought they might have them on display so popped in to have a look. When I asked I first had to spell 'Naim' and was then met with that look that says, we have to deal with a lot of customers who are idiots. I found them the Curry's website listing on the phone and said that they should probably know what it is so they don't regard any other enquirers as idiots. They were impressed by the price. Have Currys been selling the full Muso? It looks like their sales staff will need some training anyhow. I plan to buy from my dealer when I do get to it.

I am in Denmark so the only online option would be  apple, but I cannot wait for that, and I want to buy from my Naim dealer!

I would definitely avoid Curry's. I have found their after care awful. About a year ago I purchased a laptop that would not work out of the box. Upon return they refused to refund or even swap as I hadn't taken there extended care despite the product being 2 days old.

Thanks

Perhaps you were unlucky - we bought a tumble dryer from Currys last year that conked out after a fortnight. They arranged for it to be collected and gave us a full refund within 24 hours. They could not have been nicer or more helpful.

Currys, PC World & Car Phone Warehouse are owned by Dixons Carphone.    In the last week or so I was involved in helping someone select & a new basic cell phone, laptop & consider a new TV for the future.  Starting with CPW inside a very large Currys store,  we told the sales person we were interested in a Samsung J5 phone & what was the best option(s).    Without looking up from his screen he said that's not the best model & proceeded to rabbit on in technobabble about a phone that was 3 or 4 times more expensive.  No it's the J5 please, what's the options ........... nothing more than we knew already & no special deals or discounts even though we also needed a laptop,  we were told we needed to deal with that separately.   Disgusted we left.    On the way home we passed a small stand alone CPW so called in there.  First the salesman said we would be best advised to go iOS (i.e. not Samsung),  no this is what we want,  what's the best option & price for a SIM free,  price was higher than the on-line & the other CPW,  & he did all that without even looking at a screen - in less than 2 minutes we were out.   In summary Dixons Carphone Group seem to have a common trend with totally useless staff - avoid.

We eventually got the phone from Vodafone at £30 less than CPW ------  laptop is still WIP & will probably be a Dell

"Unfit for purpose" and "sale of goods act" would have been the next words out of my mouth if that was the response they gave me.  Did you manage to resolve it?

Posted on: 01 March 2016 by hungryhalibut

The Sale of Goods Act is no longer law. It's been replaced by the Consumer Rights Act and is something we should all make ourselves aware of.

Posted on: 01 March 2016 by Cdb

Of course Currys extended care (and other similar schemes) has been notorious as bad value for the consumer and highly profitable for them.

I certainly wouldn't consider them for anything remotely hifi, but of course Dixons plc has become a bit of a monopoly now.

Was all resolved. I had to kick up a real stink to get anywhere. Initially their response was to get there computer expert to look at it. He came over and tutted and said he could fix it in 30 seconds. When I asked him to do so he kept on about extended warranty again. In the end I called his bluff and said I would take the warranty out if he could fix it. He then went into the bios proudly said it was fixed and then looked rather worried when a reboot produced a fatal system error message. At this stage suddenly they all decided it was a manufacturer fault and should be sent back.

Strangely I then got a full refund and decided to never darken their door again. This whole process took about an hour.

The problem Mike is a lack of training.  So it's as much if not more the employer's issue than the employee.

Many moons ago while doing A level and college I worked part time as Laskys (competitor to Currys/Dixons/Rumbelows etc).  Zero product training.  I picked it up as I went along simply because I was interested.

Yeah, I knew *someone* would pick up on that   I couldn't be bothered to Google the correct name.  However I believe similar protections still apply, don't they?

Yeah, profit margins on extended warranties were (and presumably still are) enormous.  No surprise that we got fairly healthy commission on selling them, so no surprise that sales staff continue to push them.

I don't bother with them.  When you think that the extended warranty on say a Sky STB is about £80/year, three years of fault free use and you've basically funded a replacement.  Given the typical 'bathtub' curve on electronics failure rates, if it doesn't break in first year you'll likely be fine for longer unless there is a common manufacturing defect.

So when our last Sky STB died I just bought a new one and figured I was still better off than taking the extended warranty.

I only partly agree on that - employee training is 100% & only the responsibility of the employer - no if or buts.  An employer must check existing training during the interview stage & then after hiring include an NVQ type program to ensure all employees have the required customer handling skills, know company policies & procedures & have the technical abilities required for the product lines they are responsible for.     Clearly Dixons Carphone are not at the races with most if not all of this.

Posted on: 01 March 2016 by Graham Clarke

What I meant by it also being an employee's issue is that they have to be motivated/receptive to such training.  If they're not then the results will always be poor.

Posted on: 01 March 2016 by Mike-B

Agreed & I understood that from your post,  but will add that such attitudes would mean they would never make it to employee status in my company

Posted on: 01 March 2016 by Graham Clarke

Mike, I don't know what type of business you run so it's hard for me to comment on that specifically.

However, shop work is often poorly paid, particularly for part time Saturday staff and the adage "you get what you pay for" unfortunately often applies.

I pre-ordered mine about 3 weeks ago .. my dealer will be shipping it to me tomorrow he says.

My dealer (HiFi Cinema) rang me yesterday afternoon to tell me that my qb had arrived.  I'm going to pick it up tomorrow,

Just attended a launch here in Singapore. Very impressive for a little cube like this, more so than the big brother Muso in fact. Similar in build quality too which is good.

The usual PRAT is there and most Naim fans will certainly like it as a bedroom/kitchen/toilet system.
