Qb in da house

It's lovely.

Nice kettle HH. I didnt realise they did the Qb in red with a handle though...
Looking good anyway. Let us know how Qb sounds to your ears once youve worked it out.
Smaller than I thought (In a good way) could fit nicely on the bedside table!
Looking forward to hearing your feedback on how it sounds.

tempting... lets get some performance reports in....
In my opinion it looks great and way better than the Muso.
What is the build quality like?
Richard
But what about the possibility of galvanic Rf interference or magnetic impedance from competing sound waves from that kettle - lol. Perhaps more interesting is the corner placement - is that for convenience or SQ
Congratulations HH. The Qb is a great piece of kit. Got up close and listen to one at the show. Thought it sounded fantastic for its size.

Very neat - a lot smaller than i thought it would be. How does it sound Nigel ?
Congrats HH, I had a brief listen at recent Bristol show, sounded very very good . Ps Only thing is is doesn't match the kettle....
HH - the inevitable question is comparison to a Muso, which can go thunderously loud but still produce good, very good, SQ

Maybe HH has plans for the vibrant Red speaker grille ![]()

Probably cheaper to replace the kettle but Naim sell different front covers for the QB for about £70 quid and they do a red one
It's been fun grappling with multiroom, which I've got sorted out now, I think! Since taking the picture I've moved it out of the corner as the bass was too boomy with jazz, and voices on The Archers were sounding a bit chesty. It's now much more open sounding. We plan to redo the kitchen in late summer, at which point we will try shifting it to the other side of the room.
The build quality is amazing: the thing weighs about 6kg and it gives off a lovely air of solidity. It needs to play for a good few hours apparently, in order to reach its full potential, but it does sound really nice, and crucially much better than the little Roberts radio that was there before.
The alternative colour grilles are £49 I understand, so cheaper than the big mu-so, despite being more complex. I've asked the shop to get me a red one. At least it won't show the wine stains.
HH, so as not to re invent the wheel
are you multi rooming wirelessly from your 272? I have an NDX so will be performing a similar operation, is your 272 currently wired to your NAS/unitiserve or wireless? Thanks Maccaa
The 272 is wired, and the Qb is wireless. The Qb won't play 192k albums without dropping out. I played a 96k album on the 272 and the multiroom to the Qb won't work. But standard CD definition albums are fine. The boys, who are upstairs and access the Internet wirelessly, are saying that their connections have slowed down. I imagine that this is because the Qb is grabbing the bandwidth, as it's nearer to the router than their computers. I suspect that in the longer term I will need to run a wire, but I need to know the Qb's long term location first.
What I find fascinating is that with the same music playing in the sitting room and the kitchen, it's perfectly synchronised. It's obvious that it would be, but it does seem really clever.
One other thought has just struck me - it does sound really Naimy. I've just popped back into the sitting room from the kitchen and it sounds very similar - miles better, of course, but similar. I hope that rather daft observation makes some sense...

There has been another thread discussing possible slowdown due to the fact that the Qb, like the original Mu-so, supports only the legacy 802.11 g and b wi-fi protocols. Depending on your access point this might slow down other devices that use the current n or ac protocols.
Getting mine tomorrow so hoping not to have same problem.
(Noname but have had Naim systems for 30+ years)
My search to find one in town today to listen to was not successful, nobody had one to demo. I should have driven to Emsworth!
I have one reserved for Friday where I can listen before taking it home which I'm sure I will do. It will replace a Sonos Play 5 in our office.
As an experiment I've ordered a 20m long cat 6 flat Ethernet cable, for the princely sum of £5.97 including delivery. It'll take a few days to come and I'll then be able to see what impact this has. It can only do good, I'd have thought.
Hi Nigel,
I have a muso - which I also think is very "Naim soundy" but whilst works great in my office it's not suitable for the kitchen or bedroom. I also have a Roberts radio in the kitchen but it is a pain not being able to play same music through the living room on the 272 as well as in the kitchen with the current Roberts radio (hence QB is very interesting).

Thanks HH, I have everything except multiroom sorted, time to sit and read the manual !!!! impressed so far. A little too much bass for me so have tuned loudness off and have changed the positioning setting to less than 25cm, time to let it run in..........
We are finally happy with the MuSo after about a year of fiddling with it. My son has a UnitiQute2b at school which is truly outstanding with the minimalist Blumenstein Thrashers, and the UQ2b sounds awesome with an aerial to pick up campus radio stations, Bay Area jazz and sports. I wish there were an FM option on the Qb. I need it for football and talk radio and the Qb won't find its way into our kitchen without such a module. Wonder what would it take to add one?
Very nice rice cooker ! ;-)
I attended the launch yesterday in Singapore and was rather impressed with the Qb. I have heard the older brother before but given its bigger size, while it has similar sound DNA, I was expecting more in terms of clarity and staging but the Qb given its size, played well and smooth.
The multiroom feature will be the strongest point if you want to "hear the same thing" walking around the house between the main stereo and your bed room for example.
That said, it is about 650 pounds ($13xx) here so it is not exactly something I am buying without thinking. There is also a fear that my wife may suggest getting rid of my main system after hearing how wonderful this cute little thing is !
HH,
the Qb looks very nice. I heard the Mu-so at the whathifi show in Mumbai last week and i think Naim are onto something.
Its good for us stereo guys as these things will keep the cash registers at Naim ringing and hopefully the interest in maintaining a true stereo fleet to choose from at Naim.
The Muso / Qb is meant to be wireless and its ironic that it will be tethered to a wire at some stage. I am not detracting from it but just an observation that wireless devises grab onto bandwith ( green grass ) and this has consequences for the cow which will be chained now to the post ![]()
enjoi the music !
:-))

Those lovely vine-ripened tomatoes are the most appealing item in the picture to me.
Excellent product placement Nigel ![]()

Indeed FM module or lack of it is the thing holding us back in SinS towers... I wonder if there might be an upgrade option? I kind of doubt it... Not all of us live in cities or suburbs and so are reliant on FM rather than web radio streaming or even DAB... and yes because of rights management much football radio is not permitted online in the UK, and depending where you are is not available on DAB but only FM.
