Qb in da house

It's lovely.

Installed mine last night. I firstly tried connecting my iPad to the wifi access point that Muso creates when you hard reset the device but for some unknown reason the iPad mini never detected the new network, despite the fact the two were a mere couple of feet apart. Maybe it was only looking on the 5Ghz band? So I then tried connecting it via the iOS v7 and later approach and after 30 seconds or so of the cogs whirring it worked fine.
Mine is on a stool at the end of the kitchen in a conservatory area, about a foot away from the windows. I preferred the sound with loudness off. It had no problem streaming a 24/96 track so must have a decent signal.
SQ wise it's great and certainly retains the Naim characteristics! Clearly not on par with my main system but then that would be a stupid comparison given it's under 1/250th the price!
Later in the evening it did spontaneously turn itself on which was a little odd. This just after we'd watched The X Files on TV <cue X files spooky music...>

The key thing for us is to be able to put Radio 4 on in the morning - just press radio, toggle to the right preset (presets one to five correspond to five lights) and it's on. For playing upnp a remote is hopeless anyway, so it's easier to use the iPad or iPhone. Everything extra costs money - adding FM would need an aerial as well - and I think it's bloody good value for £595.
Personally I would like a remote, operating the touchscreen without sight is an interesting but until now not rewarding challenge. But I think I will make another thread for my very special life with the qb.

I had exactly the same problem, of course not helped with the fact that I cannot see the indicator light. But the iphone should have worked. Iphone 6S running 9.2, but connected on the 2.4 ghz network on my router that also has 5 ghz band.
I ended up starting out using a wired network, and setting up wireless by using the qb's own network and my laptop to setup the wi-fi connection. For some very unknown reason the qb lost contact with the wi-fi network about an hour later. Hopefully this is not going to happen more than that one time!
It's looks a very decent unit and I hope it's a success for Naim and for those of you who have purchased.
I have to applaud all the early adopters though, much braver than I'd be with a new streaming product.

The HW design may be new but Naim have had some years experience of SW for streaming products by now. Also I expect much of the Qb design is based on the Muso, so again prior experience.
I've sited mine in the kitchen – have good strength wifi there on laptops, iPads and phone, but only just enough for the Qb to play a radio station with occasional dropouts – Tidal manages just a second before stuttering to a halt. Shall try re-siting the router this weekend and then a power circuit ethernet. If these don't work it will have to go back to the dealer. Sound is promising when I hear something.
I have just picked mine up today and look forward to setting it up tonight.
I have seen the blurb about 90 day free Tidal trial which I intend to take up. However I cancelled my previous Naim introduction free Tidal trial in January and wondered if anyone who has done similar has had any problems. Or is it a case of just reactivating my account?

I think you may need to start a new account with a different email address to get a second free trial - but I could be wrong.
I imagine you'd need a different name, credit card and email address to get another go at it - maybe you have a partner who could do it?

I simply would take it a little out, less against the wall. Its design suggests to me that it should be able to sound interestingly stereo, with some space around it. It's a lovely thing and looks a little cornered this way..

Don't worry, I moved it very quickly after realising it was boomy in the corner. And just for Joe, I've included some rather tasty Sicilian vine ripened cherry tomatoes.
Ditch the red kettle. You need one of these to match.

We have that kettle...Nice apart from the high pitched 'Beeeeep' when it switches off...and on I think.

I agree. I have one too
Looks great hungryhalibut. I have the full fat Muso, it holds more tomatoes! I wouldn't bother with the remote. I've only used it once to see it work. Really pleased with it the Muso that is not the remote.
On a thread about the Muso someone asked about using a different figure of eight mains lead and recommended a Nordost purple flair. I've ordered one today and with a fair wind it might arrive tomorrow. Other than placement it's probably the only area to tweak - thank God.
Our broadband is diabolical so we're upgrading to All-Bran (fibre) in just over a week. So I'll be able to stream and download a 5kb email at the same time. Yippee.

Actually, I am a bit worried if it sounds boomy on a kitchen workshop with cupboards above it as that's where I would put mine, if I take the plunge. Does it not have any settings which tame the bass?
Keith
It has a loudness setting which I have turned off - you can also decide between two settings depending on how close to the wall it is. Let's say it has a fulsome bass, but it's not at all boomy. There isn't a cupboard above it now and it sounds a lot better than in its first position. It's never going to be as good as something like a Qute and some small speakers, but we are talking of a £595 wireless speaker, and for what it is, it's extraordinarily good.

Give it time and it'll leak. Great kettle (we've had two) if only they'd last...
The only thing you can do with the remote that you cannot do from the Qb itself is alter the Naim logo brightness or turn it off. The app is needed for everything else.
Not true, you can do that from the Qb. Mine has been running for 2 days and getting better all the time. It is a superb product.
Hi Nigel,
I heard it at the Bristol show where it was too noisy to make any kind of judgement, beyond the fact that the Muso next to it sounded better, as you would expect. On Tuesday night I heard it (briefly) at my local dealer. I thought it sounded very nice indeed.
I can't make up my mind whether having music in the kitchen is £595 better than blasting it from the living room :-/
Id say that yes, it is. We turned up the volume and opened the doors before, but it meant that drafts from the kitchen came into the living room, and also that the loud music annoyed everybody else. So now I can play the Smiths and 'pretentious' jazz while I cook and everyone is happy. And if you do want the same music in both places it can be synchronised with multiroom.
Just to put the price of this convenience into perspective: four SVT bronze spikes £400. One whole mu-so Qb - £595.

KRM, I was of the same mind, I would have the main system pretty loud in the living room (maybe uncomfortably so) to hear it in the kitchen but thought the Qb would be great in the multiroom mode. It is, I can now walk from the living room without the system "blasting" and then into the kitchen and although the quality is of course different it is not hugely different , in an odd sort of way. As HH said previously the multiform is also perfectly sync'd.
I appreciate the "standard" Muso is possibly better but I just don't have room...
I am really enjoying the Qb and looking forward to getting some hours on it

For some reason the music from my Qb drops out intermittently when running Multiroom from my Unityqute2. Any thoughts as to why (broadband Speed 36Mbps)?
Only issue I have had, connection wise, is the Qb drops out, briefly, when the microwave is on
, which is right next to the Qb so completely understandable. Other than that its rock solid connect wise (30/40 feet from the the BT Router)

Ok, how do you change the brightness or turn off the logo from the Mu-so - original or Qb?
Lighting under settings.

Sad to say, it is what I predicted earlier on another thread about Naim only supporting legacy wi-fi protocols that are forced to work only at 2.4 Ghz. Even my £49 printer does better than that (yes I know they make most of their money from the inks but even so)
