Sopra 3

i own focal 1038 be speakers . I enquirer of my dealer as to whether the Sopra 2's would be a big upgrade over my current 1038's. I have a really large room and he felt that since the Sopra 2's only have 2 woofers compared to my 3, that even though the 2's would be better that they might not drive the room as well as my 1038's. He said I should wait for the Sopra 3's which should be available by May or June. They will be approx $20,000 in US dollars. No other details were forthcoming. Not sure I would ever spend that much. I use all olive 01/CDS 2/52/135's. Probably be a bit of a mullet. Anyway, thought some forum members would be interested to know about this. Next up in the focal line would be Scala's which are approx $34,000. Think I'll just slum it with my 1038's! David
Interesting, David. I didn't know Sopra 3s were in the pipeline. I've had a couple of lengthy auditions of Sopra 2s and have been mighty impressed. No doubt your dealer has more experience but I've also heard 1038be's a while back and although memories fade I'd be inclined to say the Sopra 2s are a step up over the 1038s. The Sopra 2s certainly don't lack bottom end when driven by a 300, which your 135s are equivalent to. Perhaps you should persuade you dealer to loan you a pair of Sopra 2s
