Power Amp match for SuperUniti?

Posted by: Dr_J on 07 March 2016

If I wished to add a power amp to my SuperUniti, what would be the forum's collective thoughts and recommendations?

Reading the brochure/website indicates the NAP 250 DR as the ideal power match, and it has been very well thought of, however, would a late build (2015?) s/h NAP 250.2 offer a better vfm choice?

As ever, thanks in advance for your words of wisdom, brickbats, etc.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the 200. Although I have no plans to try bi-amping, you have nothing to lose by giving it a go. Let us know how it works if you do it.

So having a pair of Chord Super Epic Twin cables from my previous system, I have bi-amped my PMC 20-23's using the SU for the treble and NAP 200 for the bass.

The result - better bass grip and separation with no apparent impact on SQ. Not a better sound but a different sound to using the SU as a pre and the 200 as power.

I'll give both config's a listen over the next few week before I finally settle.

Thanks to all for their comments.

Try it the other way around, the 200 on the trebble. It seems counter inttuitive to use the best power amp on the trebble, but it often works best anyway.

I did wonder if trying it the other way round would be better. The SU does have an extra 10 watts over the 200, but worth a bit of trial and error, I would have thought.

Claus,

Interesting, the perceived wisdom I had received was to drive the treble with the more powerful amp, the SU, whilst you suggest using the 'better' amp, the 200........

Once I have got used to the first config, I'll change the connections over at the speakers and try it your way. As you say, worth a try.

Thanks,
