Uniti or Uniti Qute

Posted by: Parlow on 09 March 2016

I am thinking about changing from my 10 year old Arcam Solo.  Since the purchase of a airDAC I never use CDs directly rather I rip lossless and stream.   So I kind of object to paying for something I will never use.

For the price of a Uniti I could get Uniti Qute, NAP 100, 2 x Power Line.  I would appreciate some guidance on what would be the better system. Ta

You could also get an ex demonstration or second hand SuperUniti, which will be better than either option. That's what I'd do.

+1 You should be able to get one within your budget. Then you'd have no redundant parts, and just one neat box rather than a pimped up UnitiQute.

+1  The UQ2 will be better overall than your Arcam Solo, the SU is considerably better again.

As you're not averse to 2 box solutions, do also consider a s/h ND5 XS + s/h Nait XS or XS-2.  This combination is similar price to a s/h SU but has a different balance of strengths and weaknesses (the sound isn't as powerful or 'in yer face', but on the other hand it has more resolution with delicate or subtle music).

I should have mentioned in my original post that I'm somewhat constrained by room size / shape.  This in turn constrains speakers.  My initial thinking is that a SU would be too big for the room.  If I'm incorrect in this think please let me know.

If you can audition first that would be best. The Uniti 2 and SU have a different sound. You may prefer one over the other. If your room is not that large then the Qute may be all you need without a NAP100.
