Clarence  passed away in a Florida hospital a week after suffering a stroke.

I never rated Bruce Springsteen  but I was given a corporate VIP ticket to a gig a few years ago when travelling in USA.    It was a great show & opened up my appreciation of the man, his energy & passion was something else.  Still not convinced it was music in the purist sense tho'

But the one outstanding item was Clarence Clemons,  his presence musically was the standout & just gelled the whole thing together.

I'll take music from the heart over 'pure' every time. Bruce and the E Street Band are the epitome of 'heart' and there was no bigger than Clarence. He will be sorely missed.

The Big Man was the true soul of the E Street Band, I have seen him with Bruce a dozen times, always a great show/, Sad father's day indeed! RIP Clarence will be listening to your legacy today!

What is "music in the purist sense"?

Why isn't Springsteen "music in the purist sense"?

Gutted. I've been an enormous fan since about 1974. He'll be sorely missed.

I love that old Springsteen "Santa Clause is comin' to town" where

Bruce yells out "HEY CLARENCE, SANTA GONNA BRING YOU A NEW SAXAPHONE, RIGHT!"

Sad news indeed. Saw them as E-Street band in 1980 on The River tour at the Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh - blown away. Then again on 4th July at old Wembley Stadium in 1985 when it was so much bigger but still as good. I was young enough then to fight my way to stand in front of the sound board so no getting shoved in the back every 10 seconds.

This is my favourite version of Santa Claus as mentioned above http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P7luyVmw34

A mate of mine had it on a vinyl back then on an ... er- non-authorised release. Brilliant. DOn't know if it ever got a proper release but it's still the best version I know of.
