n-stream: One wish

Naim dudes, your doing great!!!!!

My only improvement wish is to add volume up/down buttons with the same digital readout as the main uniti unit.

An "Ignore prefixes when sorting by artist" option would be great. I like that, for instance, The Who show up under "W" rather than "T" without having to change the tag to just "Who, The".

Also for n-Serve...

Michel, I think this is handled by the upnp server/software. I use Asset upnp on my nas and it has an option to ignore 'the' as you request. I think this is a shortcoming of your nas/upnp software and not the Uniti or serve.

re the volume control; I also agree that a up/ down button is preferable to the slider for volume. However, I understand some people prefer the slider. Maybe the user could select either in the setup screen?

My server is a Unitiserve. The nStream includes the "the", but PS Audio's eLyric ignores it so It may not always be the serve.

Hi,

I'm using an HDX with the n-Serve app. I suppose therefore it has something to do with the app ?!

Any thoughts are welcome...

Ok, whilst we are blue skying a few ideas here, I would love to be able to select whether or not a track should be included when using the random play facility on the HDX.  Perhaps a tick box selection next to the track to show whether it will be included in any random play mode.  This, for example, to prevent any tracks being played when a random playlist is created from within the "Quick Play" menu, where unsuitable language for little ears is on the track.

So then when the track is de-selected it can only be played when specifically selected by the user or placed within the users own created playlist.

Also is it likely the n-serve app software will be available for other tablet devices?

Gotta say though, the HDX is just a great product, so intuitive and a delight to use as a quality storage and play solution for those who don't want the hassle of trying to setup their own network music....keep up the good work!

The PS Audio eLyric is a nice app. It does "on the fly" playlists, it's easy to navigate and it's cheap. The trouble is, it doesn't do gapless and it doesn't work in the background, so it is't a substitute for the nServe, at least in my Unitiserve plus NDX setup.

"stay connected to wifi" when locked or minimized is getting added in the next build of eLyric.

Thanks, that's good news. The link made me smile....they hadn't noticed that the app doesn't work in background until their forum members explained to them!

well... in all fairness it was designed to work with their networked DAC.  elyric sends the playlist to the player, so it doesn't need to stay connected.  It doesn;t work that way with other Renderers.... but at least will stay connected soon.

AHA!!!!  I couldn't decipher the acronym.

No I have never heard it.  Just using their app

Hi Patrick,

I've just installed Plugplayer and, sure enough, it stays connected when the app's not on the screen.

Hurrah!

Mind you, it took a while for to realse that the crucial option is in the iPad's settings, not the in the app itself. Thanks again for your help and for improving PS Audio's product! Now, if only it would do gapless...

i think it does play gapless, IF it can send the generated playlist to the renderer.  Im not sure what method they use but I think it is similar to how the Linn DS players handle playlists.

JRMC certainly plays gapless, and I am guessing their internal "WebRemote" recreates this.  But when you have the server on one hand and an app made by someone else, there needs to be some communication.

I don't think J River is going to change their playlist method anytime soon, but who knows.  More likely that they will simply develop their own components to work with their player.  They cant control every app developer out there.

But JRMC seem to be somewhat interested in PlugPlayer and eLyric compatibility with their player.  It is just a question of priority.  They seem to lean towards the Android world, or web browsers rather than iOS for "remote" control.

This is cool too because you can re-write the code for WebRemote and customize to your liking.  It isn't my deal but some do like to tinker.

There is something for everyone it seems.

An option that allows you to select both / all streamers on the network and do the same thing to all off them.

So you can turn the radio on in multiple rooms / play the same track on mutiple machines at the same time.

If you can already do this - please let me know how.

Thanks

Using N-Stream on IPhone 4 for the past few weeks - simple, quick and really convenient. Drains the battery faster than speeding bullet mind. It needs work sure but either I'm mellowing out or it's not a bad bit of software - Death Cab For Cutie - Codes and Keys playing as we speak - brilliant Tog

Well, it is pretty neat. Just today I VPN home, use nstream to start some music for my love as she walk into home from a business trip. All on iPhone while I was talking and commuting.
