Downloads - danger Will Robinson!

Having spent the last 30 years building up a CD collection that has overtaken the house (now on 6TBs of storage - an Herculean task in itself), more and more I'm in record shop (if you can find them these days) and I hear something that takes my fancy only to be told that it's available on Vinyl and Download. Having left vinyl in mid-80's when it was at a nadir I'm not going back there even though I appreciate sound quality and the full blown beauty of the artwork.
So tentatively dipping my toe into the world of downloading where I find quite a few reputable sites, some in Eastern Europe ermmm NO. Then on the hunt for a more obscure release, I came across FLAC IT based in Dagenham UK (!) launched by Nelson Pass known for designing Threshold amps in California. Quick search reveals "Flacit is one of the most popular and reputable online retailers of high quality music albums..." So I'm guessing since this is one of the most popular online retailers someone on the forum must have used them? The scene with Dustin Hoffman in Marathon Man with Sir Laurence Olivier saying "Is It Safe, Is It Safe......" keeps ringing in my head.
