Rip Keith Emerson
Posted by: Bert Schurink on 11 March 2016
Another one in the already too long list fo the year. I still remember how often I listen to the ELP in concert album, with Peter Gun...
Another sad loss to the music world, this seems to be the year we lose all our legends
Sad news indeed. I first saw Keith playing with The Nice at the Marquee, then numbers of times at Marquee, Middle Earth & their famous Albert Hall gig. We were blessed with great keyboard players in those days & Keith was the one of the best.
Gosh. Only just caught up with the sad news. I saw him a couple of times when he was in ELP. a supergroup in their day and whose albums I still enjoy.
Good grief! That is very sad. ELP was my favourite band at one point of my life. Trilogy remains one of my desert island records. RIP Keith. Thank you for your music.

On 17 August 2015 at Biggin Hill , the day before the 75th anniversary of the "hardest day", Keith Emerson co-pilots a Spitfire aircraft. This film tells the story of Keith Emerson visiting the famous Biggin Hill the day before the 75th anniversary of the ‘Hardest Day’ to co-pilot a Spitfire airplane. It includes Keith's recording of Abaddon’s Bolero and the premier of his new composition Beyond The Stars, which together provide the soundtrack of his Finest Hour.
Terrible start to this year. RIP Keith, and thanks for the music!
So sad under what appear to be tragic cicumstances.
RIP.
Richard
I saw the Nice at Bristol University, one of the most professional acts by a rock band. I also recall hearing him on Desert Island Discs, and thinking what an intelligent and knowledgable person he was. Now, I can't hear Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony without hearing his contribution. Ars longa vita brevis. Very sad.
I have only one of his albums (Brain Salad Surgery) but that is enough to easily appreciate Emerson's creative artistry on keyboards. Sad ending for a very gifted musician.
Just woken up to the news this morning, it's hard to credit that yet another great has passed away in recent months. My first experience was him playing with The Nice at Fairfield Halls Croydon. A very sad loss, R.I.P. Keith.
My favourite album of theirs will get a spin later.

ELP's Pictures at an Exhibition is wonderful always in my top ten. It was the only record we had at the youth club in 1973 played so much we wore it out. I still play it regularly. "Do you want some more music...."

I'd forgotten what a superb live recording this is.

In my younger days, I had the pleasure of seeing ELP at Wembly Stadium. A performance which has lived in clear memory ever since. A(nother) tragic loss.
Probably the most influential key board players in progressive rock. RIP
And today I read in my newspaper that he took his own life and had apparently been worrying that he would not be able to perform to his usual high standards on a forthcoming tour. Especially sad that his life should end in this way.
I remember having stumbled into a live broadcast of a concert of him and Marc Bonilla in Milano, a few years ago. The interview revealed a mannered, quiet, British gentleman with a shaded and kind voice, and to my ears joining this new image of him with the maudit one of the years between Tank and Works was a nice experience. I remember going out to buy The Nice's Five bridges, I remember the first grooves of EL&P's first album and not understanding its cover, and I remember my feeling that those people, those times and their music would never end. Since then I have lost a number of people I loved, friends and media heroes.
I sometimes wonder if the living surviving the dead are really the lucky ones.

I've never known of this album! Worth a search to homage the old musical hero.

The 202/200 should do the recording quality justice Max.

I am very saddened to hear this. One of my favorite groups of all time.
Just read some more about the tragic circumstances, makes it even more sad....
