"The musicians are in the room"

Posted by: ameden on 12 March 2016

Earlier this afternoon I (discretely) re-installed the 252 and installed the new 300DR......

Later this pm the t'other half said it sounds like  "the musicians are in the room" ...

I wasn't sure what to expect...other than hopefully 'better'....

lower floor noise, more detail, improved bass from the SL2's, just more of everything good...

not run in yet, so prob more to come.....

so far a big smile on my face, enjoying the music....a great combination

Thank you Naim..

Have a good weekend

Thanks DB

the 'old ' 300 was pretty good, the new DR is shaping up to be a stepped improvement

My new 250dr took about 75 hours to run in, it was certainly worth the wait, I'm sure it will be the same for you with your 300dr, glad for you that it's singing already...

Agree with the Finkfan, the 300dr is on another level. In my book probably as far as you need to go.

The 'DR' upgrade to the amps is something special. It makes you wonder how much better things could ever get?

Well done Naim!

Posted on: 12 March 2016 by Finkfan

Agreed Wenger. I think the 300 is worthy of the price tag and that's as far as you need to go!

I am thinking, the 252/300DR could be the ceiling in terms of value for money and spending more would give diminishing returns ....however, Naim keep surprising ....

Unfortunately not - the 552 gives far more sound per pound than the 252. Sell that kidney.

Was it a 552 at the Bristol show demo?

Listened to the 552 many times at the local dealer...its good, very good, however is it 3 times better....not convinced......yet....

I heard the 552 at the Bristol show, although the room acoustics were not the best it was the same for the 252, the 552 was disappointing, I wanted to be 'blown away' but no goose bumps, left rather disappointed.

Enjoy your new 300DR Ameden.  I've been very pleased with mine since I got it just before Xmas. I didn't find the changes during run-in were as significant  as I've experienced with some other Naim kit so hopefully there will be fewer ups and downs that you might have expected.

Hi Ameden... Good to hear your enjoying your new 300DR upgrade. I have to agree the DR upgrades are special indeed, I have been very impressed with my 250DR a real step change from the original, I recently had a demo of the 300DR at my dealers, within seconds I was totally captivated by its magic and my mind was made up, I think it was one of the quickest decisions I think i have ever made in hifi terms and so I will be upgrading to the 300DR in the not too distant future, cant wait.

Enjoy your new amp and let us know how it settles in.

Good listening

Yes, Rob. When I was contemplating upgrading my 250.2 to DR status, I had an in-store demo of 250.2 v 250 DR v 300DR and I thought the jump in performance from the 250DR to the 300DR was much greater than the 250.2 to 250DR.  A home demo followed, just to be sure, and the decision was an easy one (albeit expensive!).

Yes Mike.... I thought when I went to the 250DR it would only be a matter of time before I moved up the the 300DR (although maybe not quite this quick) as I was familiar with the original 300 and liked what it did and as we know the 300DR is without doubt a big step up from the original and agree wholeheartedly the difference is far greater going from 250DR to 300DR.

252 to 552 was not disappointing in my room- far from it. Actually it was the largest leap in performance that I have witnessed  from a single box upgrade. Simply fantastic and driven by a 250.2 at the time without any DR magic. Probably best to try one at home before writing it off..

I've had my 300 DR since last October. Since then I've had no desire to change anything in my system at all. I think I've found my final resting place......unless my lottery numbers come up.

Indeed. In fact I would rather use a 552/110 than a 252/300
