HiCap Use
Posted by: Gavin Alexander on 13 March 2016
At present I have a Nac202 / Nap200 / Flatcap2x LP12 / Lingo3 & stageline. I can afford one hicap at present, should I use it to power the stageline or the pre amp ? I'm not sure what would give the biggest benefit. Any one on the forum went for a similar upgrade
Gavin, is the LP12 your only source? If so, then worth trying out each option. I would put your FC2x towards the second one...
Sorry Richard forgot to mention I also have a Linn Majik DS.
Just to update you, got my HiCap today tried on the stage line for a couple of hours (after warming it up) and then with the pre amp. Pre amp wins, now to save up the pennies for one for the stage line.
Try to get hold of a napsc for the 202 before you do anything else.
... and a powerline for the napsc ...
Did you trade the Flatcap in? If not, can you put that on the Stageline?
Cheers HiCap is on the pre amo, and the Flatcap is on the Stageline ![]()
That of course should be pre amp
I will try the suggestion of the napsc on the stageline, presently it's powering my head amp.
Almost the identical system to mine, except I already have a hicap dr on the pre-amp and lp-12 has lingo2. Also a just resuscitated tandberg tcd-340 cassette deck. My other source cd5 (cannot add power supply- might be a 5x). Speakers are harbeth m30.1. What are your speakers? My system is on a quadraspire svt rack and wall mounted tt shelf. Unable to experiment with the wiring (due to disability) the hicap has always been on the pre-amp and the fc on (come to think of it - might be a pre-fix , not stageline)
HH-
Can you tell what adding just a napsc would do to the sq? Or would looking for a 282 make more sense (I don't want to hijack this thread however)
Hi Benjy,
Complete system is LP12 / Ekos 2 / Dynavector 10x5 / Stageline /Lingo 3 / Majik DS / Nac 202/Nap 200 / HiCap / Headline +Napsc / Proac D18's bi-wired with Chord Carnival Silver Screen cables.
As I don't use the Headline very often, I'm going to take the advice and add it to the Nac 202 as well and listen to what difference it will make.

Perhaps some of the more informed users might be able to answer that Benjy
Thnx- I didn't realize you already have a napsc- I never had one and did not even know you could use it on a headline.Btw my lp 12has ittok arm and lyra cartridge, speaker cable is naca 5- but still pretty similar system. My "custom stands" for the speakers are iron folding bookcases from container store- just the right height and weighed down with heavy books ![]()

Moved the napsc from the headline to the 202, it has made a difference not dramatic but I can hear a difference in timing and depth.

All the kit is on a dedicated separate spur, what powerline would you recommend ? Naim I guess or are there others that you have tried.
