Is there a sonic difference between an early 72 and a late 72?

I'd take a later 1972 Oldsmobile 442. Sound better...

If my memory serves me correctly I believe there was a point when they changed the PCB architecture slightly. This resulted in a somewhat sweeter sound. I know my 72 (from around 1995) sounded great - I only changed it about a year ago when I found a good 52.
It does pay to listen to more than one 72 if you have the chance. Just to see if you can hear a difference between them.
