SanDisk Clip
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 March 2016
I wonder if anyone uses a SanDisk Clip? I didn't want to use my phone to play music at the gym and I get terribly confused converting FLAC to MP3 and importing it into horrible iTunes. With the Clip you just drag and drop FLAC files from the nas to the Clip and off you go. The sound quality, even though the freebie earbuds is very good. It's tiny (I've included a couple of Naim plugs in the picture to give an idea), weighs virtually nothing and clips to your shirt, as its name would suggest. And the best thing - it's only £35.

No, the best thing is it's black and green... You dandy.

Mrs Mike has one, must be 2 years now, its all black & a previous model to the one in the picture. She selects albums or makes up play lists from the NAS, takes a .wav copy, dBpoweramps it to MP3 & uploads to the Clip. We took it on a 3000 mile USA road trip last year, & it was nice listen to our fav toons as we rolled along, & MP3 was not so bad on the crap rent car audio.
just got one ..even cheaper on amazon and its fine.No "design" but cheap and easy. if you set it up as rest of the world apparently theres no EU volume limit.Early days but at £27 an experiment
used the sansa fize - again the same thing..
enjoyed it for 3 years and its died on me now
just ordered a Fiio M3
I use an ealier version of it in the gym. It must be aboutn4 years old now.
For the money i think its a fabulous little player. Bought it for exactly the same reason....it can play flac files. Takes abuse as well....so light that it bounces.
I really like my rather more expensive Sony Walkman, but much like my own body, I wouldn't dare take it to the gym for fear of breaking it.
Different league, price wise, I know, but my A&K Jr sounds sublime when connected via Bluetooth to AKG Y50BT headphones at the gym!
If you can wear AKGs on the treadmill you are either rock hard or taking it easy.

Definitely tending towards the latter (no way can I lay claim to the first!). Seriously though, the AKGs fit well, are very comfortable and very wearable for up to 2 hours. I also don't run on the treadmill - at my age and state of joint degeneration I find spinning and rowing are ideal, coupled with a medium session of resistance work. Good quality music is the only thing that makes this brand of masochism bearable!!
I tried this and thought it was a bit rubbish to be honest. Certainly not a patch on my Sony NWZ thingy.

A not unsurprising verdict, given that the price difference is comparable to a Nait XS vs a 552/500....
I think the point is the price - £40 or a lot less & the size How much is the (very good) Sony NWZ
If he means an NW-ZX2, the RRP is £950.

Maybe, but are you going to clip a £950 Sony onto your running top? And does it weigh about 20g? Even with the freebie earbuds, it sounds really, really good. Really good quality music from full fat FLAC for £35? It can't be bad, unless snobbery gets in the way. And... does the Sony come in Naim green?
My Sony cost £150, and my running days are long past!
Comes in Naim black - but has snazzy cover art screen....
Actually the Clip was quite good for the money but I didn't get on with the fiddly buttons.
I have read some review(s) stating that if the Sandisc battery goes flat, the unit becomes unusable, cannot be recharged without being re-set by the factory (or main dealer or something).
Do any of you know if this is true? Imagine leaving it in a drawer unused for a few months, to find the battery is flat and you can't even re-charge it.....

Running days past? How old are you? 106?
A marvellous piece of kit for the price. We have 3 of them in the family and never had any issues with them, battery or otherwise. If you want to extend the features and have a bit of fun with them, try updating the firmware with "Rockbox" (rockbox.org).
A timely thread Mr Hallibut because Mrs Dayjay is looking for something similar to use on her hollidays and this fits her price range. Cheers
