Unitiqute + Neat Motive SX2

Posted by: docbot on 16 March 2016

Not sure if this question should be in this forum or the strep forum!

I replaced my Linn system (Genki, Kolektor, LK140) with a Unitiqute 2 and am absolutely loving it. I have started listening to my music again!!!!!  I am currently using my old Linn Tukans. To my ears the combo is good but I am itching to change the speakers. I am trying to sort out a short list for audition. I like the reports of the Neat Motive SX2s but I fear the Unitiqute may be underpowered for them. With the Tukans (4 ohms, 87dB) most of my listening is done at volume level of "50". I would be very interested in anyone's experience of the Unitiqute with the Neats.

Cheers

Hi, I listened to this combo at my local dealer when I was looking at the Unitiqute. I ended up buying the UQ2 along with NAP100, but at the demo I felt the sound with SX2s was harsh and fatiguing, with or without NAP100.

Maybe the room was not setup all that well (mostly undamped but with carpet), so it may be worth trying under different conditions, but my feeling is that the SX2s probably need an amp with more grip/control (and for me, slightly warmer balance). This also will depend on the type of music you like and your regular listening volumes.

In the end I also traded out my NAP100 for a more powerful amp, but that was largely due to my fairly low efficiency Wharfedale Jades needing a more powerful amp to come alive & present good dynamics.

UQ2 on its own can give nice room-filling sound, but needs careful matching with relatively high efficiency and easy to drive speakers in order to do so. To my ears, Guru Juniors make one of the best matches with a bare UQ2. Russel K speakers are also getting huge plaudits right now, sadly not available near me yet.

Not sure where you are but JM Reynaud speakers (French) match up really well with Naim sound, and their Bliss model has the kind of efficiency which might go well with the Qute.
