Any future updates for this product, the UnitiServe? If not, why not?

Wishlist being realistic so omitting support for streaming services.

Ability to play in sync with the streamers. Much more important since the mu-so and qb launch, would be really great both with upnp and internet radio.

Unless I am completely mistaken, UnitiServe can handle up to 6 individual UPnP streams in 44.1 kHZ (including a local playback).

Yes but the local output is not in sync with these streams unfortunately. The same goes for iRadio played on the 2 devices, probably makes sense because this  is not controlled from one app, like  it would be with real multiroom support.

And with upnp you would have to start the streams at exactly the same time on the 2 devices to ensure they would be in sync.

Nope - for that you use a 'multiroom' function which is available on all NAIM streamers. You just need to enable it. The originating streamer becomes the 'controller' ensuring everything is in sync.

What I was referring to is that a UnitiServe can handle multiple different streams at the same time (not one stream to multiple devices - this is called multi room).

I've tested and used both functions with my multi-room set up. Works perfectly well.

I had the same issue with a 24 bit download from Quobuz. The remastered Face Value by Phil Collins will not show the album artwork on the n-serve app even though the j.peg file was included in the download. Is a fix possible?

If the album art is a jpeg file and is named folder.jpg and is placed in the folder with the rest of the album . . . the uServe will display it.

Possibly a different thread, but here we go

Artwork should be called folder.jpg and should be placed in the same folder as the music files themselves.

It should be a genuine JPG file, not merely a changed extension.

It also works fine if the artwork is called cover.jpg but in any case you don't want to have any other jpgs in the folder and also recently there was a thread where someone solved a similar problem by moving pdfs which were downloaded with the music out of the folder so there was just one cover art file and the music files.

but not the second time, oh well.

What exactly worked the first time and not the second time?!

I recall going to a demo evening at my dealers about three years ago. Anyone who can recall when the Nstream app was updated will know exactly when. The senior Naim staffer present spoke effusively about how the new name app would allow you to read the liner notes/lyrics/ endless thank you lists and all the other trivia present on album covers. This excited me enormously as it was the one thing missing from my set up (Userve Ndac) After the presentation I approached him and asked if this feature would be added to the Nserve app. After facetiously suggesting I purchase a streamer, he then went on to say that the goal was to have everything working with the one app. One App to rule them all. As I say this was at least three years ago and since then the  silence on this topic has been deafening.

I am very happy with my second Userve  but an android option of the app would be appreciated.

Like Antmast I have the uneasy feeling that, when I chose the Userve fork in the road it is leading to a dead end.

One cd cover that was missing.

I have to admit that I am missing the boat here. What is the point in having a streamer when your primary need is to play music through the dac to your new B&W speakers. Isn't a wire connection always better?

Posted on: 23 March 2016 by David Hendon

I expect you can sort out the CD cover. The rules mostly always apply if you dig hard enough.

On your other point, it all depends on what kit you have and where it is located. If you have a Unitiserve next to a DAC and that is next to your preamp, then you don't need a streamer. Enjoy the music on what you have!

But for example if like me you have a Unitiserve in one room and you want to feed music to systems in two or more other places, then streamers are the answer. You may not want to have your Unitiserve or NAS where you can hear it whirring quietly away next to your amplifier and if you network it all, then you can put the server anywhere away from where you listen. Streamers come with built in DACs so you save buying a DAC too although some people prefer to use a Chord DAC to Naim's own offerings. There are lots of options and no "right" answers.

Heres a wishlist of updates for the UnitiServe and its remote application on the IPad.

1) Album Covers mostly appear when they should but sometimes, especially with my Quboz classical, they stubbornly will not display. They show in TagScanner, but the UnitiServe client app on the IPad as well as the Desktop client app sometimes show the default Naim cd cover instead, even when the cover is renamed to cover.jpg.  For most a database rebuild can resolve the problem.

2) PDF reader, many downloads come with librettos, or album information. Remember the days you listen to the music while reading the album cover. Can we do that again? Especially on the IPad.

I'd like (1) fixed as well.

In addition I'd like to be able to edit metadata in the Downloads folder.

Posted on: 24 March 2016 by Bart

My numero uno wish would be the ability to backup the Downloads folder contents using the uServe's backup utility.  One can backup the ripped music store, but not Downloads.  That's a shame.

Posted on: 24 March 2016 by nigelb

It is more than a shame, it is very annoying. By definition you already have a back up of the ripped files in the original CDs. Indeed it is the downloads folder that is most important to back up as files can be tricky or impossible to recover if lost.

The inability to back up the downloads folder is a significant issue with the US IMO.

Sell it and get a nas. Cheaper, better, easier.

But only with streamers, so no use with the servers used with spdif  out.

Using a hdx/ns/userve server as a upnp server for another streamer is a lot of redundancy and way too expensive!

I would call it convenience. I know few other Naim users, who have their US solely as a server.
