Files lost in firmware update

Posted by: JohnL on 22 March 2016

Hi, I rip in dB poweramp (flac) to Twonky on QNAP. I was recently sent some Hi Res files on a USB drive (thank you Adam, I've not forgotten about you, will be in touch) that I converted to flac (using db converter) and put in my music library. All was well until yesterday when I updated to the latest firmware on QNAP. The Hi res files are now showing the wrong artwork and the tracks are scrambled/missing or in other albums. I have deleted one of these files and am now left with a ghost folder (ie Empty, no art work, just the album title). I have scanned my music library (nothing there) and checked the recycle bin, rescanned the hard drive in both QNAP and Twonky and rebooted the NAS and reset the Naim app on the I pad. All to no avail. ANY help or advice would be appreciated. Many thanks John

If you look directly at the files on the NAS (File Station or Win Explorer) are they intact?

If so then it might indicate a database/tagging issue

As you have rescanned try reinstalling the Apps on the NAS

Hi John

Best way to delete files and folders on QNAP is via it's own admin panel.
If you have a back up of all your files on an external drive, I would suggest that you delete all the files on your QNAP and re-load the entire music back to it.

To keep the files separated you could create two folders:

  • Rips (this is where you'd put the files you rip with dBPowerAmp
  • Downloads (this is where you'd put any files you purchase)

If I may recommend something - switch off the Twonky Media Server (it's done via QNAP admin). It does get into a bit of a mess.

Minimserver sotware is far better. Try it - if you don't like what it does, you can always delete it. If you go down to their website there are step-by-step instructions on how to install Minimserver on your QNAP.

If anything - just drop me a line.

Happy Easter!

Adam
